Rheban, Tasmania
Rheban is a rural locality in the local government area of Glamorgan–Spring Bay in the South-east region of Tasmania. It is located about south of the town of Swansea. The 2016 census determined a population of 7 for the state suburb of Rheban. History Rheban was gazetted as a locality in 1960, beside Carrickfergus Bay. The district was initially called 'Annaroe' after a property there. It was then named after an Irish castle called Rheban near Athy, County Kildare. Note the Tasmania Placenames reference is in error as Athy is 60 km inland from the sea and nowhere near Carrickfergus and Carrickfergus Bay (now known as Belfast Lough). 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. Swansea, Tasmania
Swansea is a town in the heart of Tasmania's east coast, on the north-west shore of Great Oyster Bay and overlooking Freycinet National Park. It was the first municipality in Australia to be established after Hobart and Sydney. At the , Swansea had a population of 997. The town was formed in 1821 and celebrated its 200th birthday in 2021. History The first European to explore the Swansea area was Captain John Henry Cox sailing from England to Sydney. He took his ship, the ''Mercury'', up the eastern coast of Tasmania. Orford, Tasmania
Orford is a village on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia 73 kilometres north-east of Hobart. It is the home of the joint champions of T20 Cricket in Tasmania. The village is centred on the mouth of the Prosser River, on the southern margin of a substantial coastal inlet called Prosser Bay. Beyond this bay are the waters of the Mercury Passage. At the 2006 census, Orford had a population of 553. History The town was named by Edward Walpole, who was granted 1,000 acres (4 km2) in the area in 1831.
