Reşat Ekrem Koçu
Reşat Ekrem Koçu (1905 – July 6, 1975) was a Turkish writer and historian. His best known work is his unfinished Istanbul Encyclopedia (''İstanbul Ansiklopedisi''), which recounts many tales of Istanbul from Ottoman times. Koçu and his colorful depictions of Ottoman Istanbul are celebrated in Orhan Pamuk's book '' Istanbul: Memories and the City''. Life Koçu was born in Istanbul. After completing his high-school education at ''Bursa Erkek Lisesi'' in the north-western town of Bursa, Koçu studied history at Istanbul University, where he later worked as a researcher of the Ottoman period. From 1933, in the wake of Atatürk's secularist reform of the Turkish university system, Koçu taught history in the high schools of Alman, Kuleli, Pertevniyal and Vefa in Istanbul. During his teaching years, Koçu also published poems, stories and novels. Pertevniyal High School
Pertevniyal High School of Istanbul was founded in 1872 by Pertevniyal Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdulaziz. It cost 3520 gold coins to build the school. The school was forced to relocate after the fire of 1911, which destroyed much of downtown Istanbul. A new building was not constructed until 1968. Maureen Deidre Freely Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, FRSL (born July 1952) is an American journalist, novelist, professor, and translator. Vefa
Vefa is part of the district of Fatih in Istanbul, and lies inside what was once the old walled city of Constantinople. It lies roughly northwest of the eastern section of the Aqueduct of Valens, and is rich in monuments, both Byzantine and Ottoman. It takes its name from the Muslim saint (wali) Shaykh Ebu’l Vefa who is buried locally in his own mosque and dergah. Vefa lies to the east of busy Atatürk Bulvari, the main road pushed through the old city by the French architect Henri Prost in the 1950s. Immediately to its north is the rundown area of Küçükpazarı while to the east is the Süleymaniye district around the huge Süleymaniye Mosque complex. Buses plough up and down Atatürk Bulvari linking Vefa to Taksim, Eminönü, Fatih and Beyazıt. Kuleli Military High School
Kuleli Military High School was the oldest military high school in Turkey, located in Çengelköy, Istanbul, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus strait. It was founded on September 21, 1845, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I. After the 2016 Turkish coup d état attempt Kuleli Military High School along with other Military High Schools was closed and turned into a museum.
