Re·ac·tor
''Re·ac·tor'' is the eleventh studio album by Canadian folk rock musician Neil Young, and his fourth with American rock band Crazy Horse, released on November 2, 1981. It was his last album released through Reprise Records before he moved to Geffen for his next five albums. Content Musical style The album marked Young's first use of the Synclavier, which would be featured heavily on the subsequent albums ''Trans'' (1982) and ''Landing on Water'' (1986). The song "Shots" had originally been performed live in 1978 as a ballad. In 2003, Greg Kot of ''Chicago Tribune'' proclaimed that ''Re·ac·tor'' "works up a punk-blues racket ..that sounds as shaggy and disheveled as anything the Replacements recorded". ''AllMusic'' opined the album to contain "guitar-drenched hard rock made up of thrown-together material". ''Salon.com'' described the album as a proto-grunge effort. Peter J. Howe described it retrospectively in 1985 as "gritty post-punk". Packaging The album feat ...

Trans (album)
''Trans'' is the twelfth studio album by Canadian musician and singer-songwriter Neil Young, released on January 10, 1983. Recorded and released during his Geffen era in the 1980s, its electronic sound baffled many fans upon its initial release—a Sennheiser vocoder VSM201 features prominently in six of the nine tracks. Background In 1982, Young left Reprise Records, his record label since his debut album in 1968, to sign with Geffen Records—the label founded and owned by David Geffen, who had worked with Young as manager of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Young's contract guaranteed him $1 million per album, as well as total creative control over his output. From late 1980 to mid-1982, Young spent much of his waking hours carrying out a therapy program for his young son, Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy and unable to speak. Neil disclosed to almost no one at the time that he was doing so, or that the repetitive nature of the songs on both the previous album, '' Re·a ...

Neil Young Archives
The Neil Young Archives is a longtime project by singer-songwriter Neil Young. It started as a series of archival releases featuring previously released as well as unreleased studio and live recordings. It eventually developed into a website featuring almost the whole of Young's recording output throughout his career, available for streaming in high resolution audio format. The project has been long in the making – work began in the late 1980s. Throughout its development, Young himself has made several statements about the material included, release dates, and marketing that have proven false as the project was modified for new multimedia formats and expanded upon to accommodate new releases or other relevant material. Young has said that there will be five volumes covering approximately 50 years.YouTube clip:Neil Young Archives Demo at Java" The archives are divided into several series. Overview ''Hawks & Dovess two sides were recorded in different circumstances, side one being culled from sessions dating from approximately 1974 through 1977, and side two from sessions set in early 1980 specifically for the album. It is also one of Young's shortest albums, its running time just under half an hour. Conception Side one includes "Little Wing" and "The Old Homestead", which were originally recorded during the sessions for 1975's '' Homegrown''. "Lost in Space" was a ''Comes a Time'' outtake and "Captain Kennedy" was recorded the night of the ''Hitchhiker'' recording in 1976. Life (Neil Young & Crazy Horse Album)
''Life'' is an album by Canadian musician Neil Young and his American backing band Crazy Horse, and it is Young's last release on the Geffen label. As with their 1979 album ''Rust Never Sleeps'', Young and the Horse performed most of this album's songs live with the exceptions of "Cryin' Eyes" and "We Never Danced" which were recorded in studio. The album was released on July 6, 1987. The first three tracks all handle the topic of world politics, and ponder the role of the United States in the world. "Long Walk Home," for example, empathizes with troops under deployment overseas. Though in response to the foreign policy issues of the time (Beirut, Qaddafi), Young found new meaning in these songs in the context of the war on terror and the occupation of Iraq. During his "Freedom of Speech" tour in support of ''Living with War'', Young posted videos of these three songs on his website. The "Mideast Vacation" and "Long Walk Home" videos were later released on the DVD included with th ...

In 2014, a remastered, high-resolution download was made available on the Pono store, restoring the album to its original length. Between tracks 2 and 3 on side 2 there is a stage announcement calling for people to get off of a tower and comments on an ongoing rainstorm. This is actually taken from Woodstock, almost a decade prior where Young performed as a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Track listing Adapted from original LP labe ...

Frank Sampedro
Frank "Poncho" Sampedro (born Manuel Francisco Sampedro de Victoria, February 25, 1949) is an American retired guitarist and member of the rock band Crazy Horse, known mainly for his longtime collaboration with singer-songwriter Neil Young. Sampedro has played and recorded with Young in many other configurations aside from Crazy Horse and earned co-writing credits on several Young songs. Out of all Young's musical collaborators (aside from the late pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith), Sampedro has proven perhaps the most adept at working with the mercurial artist. "Most people turn a corner. Neil ricochets," says Sampedro. Early life Born to an émigré Spanish fishing family in a mining camp in Welch, West Virginia and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Sampedro started playing guitar at age 11. "I saw this kid from my neighborhood walking down the street holding a guitar. I said, 'Where'd you get that?' He said, 'I'm taking lessons...if you take lessons with me, we get a cheaper price. ...

Serenity Prayer
The Serenity Prayer is a prayer attributed to the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971) in 1943. However, Winnifred Crane Wygal wrote an early version in the Santa Cruz Sentinel of March 15, 1933, as noted in the above cited research by Fred Shapiro, discussing Wygal's diary entry for October 31, 1932 referencing intellectual work by Niebuhr that used the phrases "the serenity to accept" and "the courage to change," but not in the context of a prayer. This suggests that the first published prayerful use may have been the 1933 work of Wygal. YouTube segment 3:15. It is commonly quoted as: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. The prayer originally asked for courage first, and specifically for changing things that must be changed, not things that simply can be changed: Father, give us courage to change what must be altered, serenity to accept what cannot be helped, and th ...

Punk-blues
Punk blues (or blues punk) is a rock music genre that mixes elements of punk rock and blues.Punk Blues Genre AMG Allmusic.com, Retrieved on May 21, 2008 Punk blues musicians and bands usually incorporate elements of related styles, such as protopunk and blues rock. Its origins lie strongly within the garage rock sound of the 1960s and 1970s. Punk blues can be said to favor the common rawness, simplicity and emotion shared between the punk and blues genres. Chet Weise, singer/guitarist of the Immortal Lee County Killers stated, "Punk and blues are both honest reactions to life. It's blues, it's our blues. It's just a bit turned up and a bit faster." Origins Before the beginning of the punk movement of the late 1970s, several important forerunners such as the MC5, the Stooges, the Who, the Sonics, Captain Beefheart, and the New York Dolls displayed a fascination with American blues. AllMusic states that punk blues draws on the influence of the "garage rock sound of the mid ...

Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. The genre developed into a major form of popular music in the 1970s, with the Who, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple being joined by Queen, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Kiss, and Van Halen.
