Rezillos
The Rezillos are a punk/ new wave band formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1976. Although emerging at the same time as other bands in the punk rock movement, the Rezillos did not share the nihilism or social commentary of their contemporaries, but instead took a more light-hearted approach in their songs, preferring to describe themselves at the time as "a new wave beat group". Their songs are heavily influenced by 1950s rock and roll, 1960s English beat music and garage rock, early 1970s glam rock, with recurring lyrical themes of science fiction and B movies; their influences mirrored those of US bands the Cramps and the B-52s, who were starting out at the same time. The Rezillos' biggest hit in their home country was the UK Top 20 single "Top of the Pops" in 1978, but they are best known outside the UK for their cover version of "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight", which was featured on the soundtrack to '' Jackass: The Movie'' in 2002. Can't Stand The Rezillos
''Can't Stand the Rezillos'' is the debut studio album by Edinburgh-based punk band the Rezillos, released on Sire Records on 21 July 1978. The album has a more mainstream pop and rock and roll sound than the punk music of the time, and includes the UK top twenty hit "Top of the Pops", as well as several cover versions of 1960s songs: "Glad All Over" (originally a hit for the Dave Clark Five); "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight" (originally by Fleetwood Mac); and " I Like It", a Gerry and the Pacemakers hit. ''Can't Stand the Rezillos'' received positive reviews from the UK music magazines and reached number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. The Rezillos split four months after the album's release, and the band did not make another studio album until their reformation in 2001 and the release of ''Zero'' in 2015, but ''Can't Stand the Rezillos'' has continued to receive critical acclaim since its release. Alastair Donaldson
Alastair Donaldson (27 April 1955, in Edinburgh – 18 June 2013, in Edinburgh) was a Scottish multi-instrumentalist, and was the bass guitar player for the Scottish punk/pop band The Rezillos, for whom he played under the stage name of William Mysterious.Strong, Martin C.: "The Great Alternative & Indie Discography", 1999, Canongate, He was a formative member of the folk ensemble Silly Wizard prior to his involvement with The Rezillos, and appears on many of their recordings under his real name. He appears on the Rezillos' second single for Sire Records, featuring the songs "(My Baby Does) Good Sculptures" and "Flying Saucer Attack" and also on their first studio album ''Can't Stand The Rezillos''. Jo Callis
John William "Jo" Callis (born 2 May 1951) is an English musician and songwriter who played guitar with the Edinburgh based punk rock band The Rezillos (under the name Luke Warm), and post-punk band Boots for Dancing before joining The Human League.Strong, Martin C. Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight
"Man of the World" is a song recorded by Fleetwood Mac in 1969, and composed by vocalist and lead guitarist Peter Green. After the group signed to Immediate Records that year, the label collapsed shortly after the single's release. As such, "Man of the World" is the only Fleetwood Mac single under the Immediate Records label. "Man of the World" first appeared as a Fleetwood Mac single in various countries in 1969, subsequently appearing on the band's ''Greatest Hits'' album in 1971. The song was later featured on the 1992 boxed set ''25 Years – The Chain'', and on the 2002 compilation albums ''The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac'' and '' The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac''. A slightly different version of the song was included on the 1998 compilation ''The Vaudeville Years''. The Pork Dukes
The Pork Dukes are an English punk rock band, formed 1976 during the first wave of British punk in London, England. History The band was originally composed of twin brothers and former Gnidrolog members Colin Goldring (vocals / guitar) and Stewart Goldring (guitar / vocals) using the pseudonyms Vilos and Horrendus Styles, respectively – alongside Scabs (aka Rick Kemp of Steeleye Span) (bass guitar), Germun LePig (aka Nigel Pegrum, also of Steeleye Span and previously in Gnidrolog) (drums) (later replaced by Bonk aka. The Human League
The Human League are an English synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in 1977. Initially an experimental electronic outfit, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1979 and later attained widespread commercial success with their third album ''Dare'' in 1981 after restructuring their lineup. The album contained four hit singles, including the UK/US number one hit " Don't You Want Me". The band received the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act in 1982. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. B Movie
A B movie or B film is a low-budget commercial motion picture. In its original usage, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified films intended for distribution as the less-publicized bottom half of a double feature (akin to B-sides for recorded music). However, the U.S. production of films intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s. With the emergence of commercial television at that time, film studio B movie production departments changed into television film production divisions. Youth Brigade (band)
Youth Brigade is an American punk rock band formed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States, in 1980 by the brothers Mark, Adam, and Shawn Stern. The band subsequently founded BYO (Better Youth Organization). Many later punk bands cite Youth Brigade as an influence, including The Nation of Ulysses and The Briefs. Youth Brigade has released five studio albums (counting one released as The Brigade), of which the last was released in 1996. Almost each album was recorded with the original lineup of the Stern brothers (Mark, Adam and Shawn); bassist Bob Gnarly replaced Adam in 1985 during the recording of '' The Dividing Line'', which was released as The Brigade.
