Rex Lyle Carter (June 20, 1925 – June 9, 2014) was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Honea Path, South Carolina, Anderson County, South Carolina, Carter served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He then received his bachelor's degree from Erskine College and then his law degree from University of South Carolina School of Law. Carter then practiced law in Greenville, South Carolina. The University of South Carolina School of Law, also known as South Carolina Law School, is a professional school within the University of South Carolina. The school of law was founded in 1867, and remains the only public and non-profit law school in the state of South Carolina. The school has been accredited by the American Bar Association since 1925 and has been a member of the Association of American Law Schools since 1924.
