Rex Cawley
Warren Jay Cawley (July 6, 1940 – January 21, 2022) was an American athlete, winner of 400 m hurdles at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Cawley was born in Highland Park, Michigan. He attended Farmington High School. Cawley still holds the record time for the 100 yard dash at Farmington High School that he set in 1959. He was ''Track and Field News'' "High School Athlete of the Year" in 1959. He won the AAU championships in 440-yard hurdles in 1963 and 1965 and as a University of Southern California student, he won an NCAA title in 440 yd hurdles in 1963. At the Olympic Trials in 1964, Cawley set a world record in 400 m hurdles with a time of 49.1, thus becoming a main favorite at the Olympic Games. Highland Park, Michigan
Highland Park is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,977 at the 2020 census. Along with its neighbor of Hamtramck, Highland Park is an enclave city surrounded by the city of Detroit. History The area that was to become Highland Park began as a small farming community, on a large ridge at what is now Woodward Avenue and Highland, north of Detroit. In 1818, prominent Detroit judge Augustus B. Woodward bought the ridge, and platted the village of Woodwardville in 1825. The development of the village failed. Another Detroit judge, Benjamin F. H. Witherell, son of Michigan Supreme Court justice James Witherell, attempted to found a village platted as Cassandra on this site in 1836, but this plan also failed. John Cooper (hurdler)
John Cooper (18 December 1940 – 3 March 1974) was a British athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metre hurdles. He competed for Great Britain in the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan in the 400 metre hurdles, where he won the silver medal. He then joined with teammates Tim Graham, Adrian Metcalfe, and Robbie Brightwell in the 4 x 400 metres relay, where they won the silver medal. Cooper also competed in the 400 metre hurdles at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, serving as Great Britain's third-string athlete in this event, behind gold medallist David Hemery and bronze medallist John Sherwood. Cooper originally went to school at Lutterworth Grammar School. Melvin Lacy Renfro (born December 30, 1941) is a former American football player, a cornerback who spent his entire 14-year career in the National Football League (NFL) with the Dallas Cowboys. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
