Revista Bohemia
''Revista Bohemia'' (also referred to as ''Bohemia'') is Cuba's oldest general consumer magazine. Founded in 1908 by Miguel Ángel Quevedo Pérez, it provides commentary on politics, analysis of history, as well as advice on fashion, when in 1927, Miguel Ángel Quevedo became the editor. It made claims of being the first to publish the work of Cuban artists in color. Miguel Ángel Quevedo
Miguel Ángel Quevedo y de la Lastra (July 31, 1908 – August 12, 1969) was the publisher and editor of ''Bohemia'' Magazine, the most popular news-weekly of its day in Cuba and Latin America, known for its political journalism and editorial writing. In May 1908, Quevedo's father, Miguel Ángel Quevedo y Pérez, first published the magazine ''Bohemia'', which he named after his favorite opera, ''La bohème'', by Giacomo Puccini. The magazine folded after a few issues but returned in 1910 and became one of Cuba's most popular weeklies within a few years. Due to failing health, Quevedo Pérez turned over the running of ''Bohemia'' to his son, Quevedo de la Lastra (then only eighteen years old), on January 1, 1927. Almost immediately, the young Quevedo became one of the principle voices of opposition to the dictatorship of Gerardo Machado, a distinction for which he was jailed several times in the early 1930s. Marta Rojas
Marta Rojas (May 17, 1928 – October 3, 2021) was a Cuban journalist, historian, historical fiction writer, and revolutionary heroine. A witness to the 26 July 1953 assault on the Moncada Barracks, she reported on the subject of censorship to '' Revista Bohemia''. Biography Marta Rojas, a tailor's daughter, was born in Santiago de Cuba, on 17 May 1928 (other sources state 1931). She studied at the Escuela Normal. Though she thought she wanted to be a physician, she changed her mind once she arrived in Havana, graduating from the Escuela Profesional de Periodismo Manuel Márquez Sterling. Rojas worked for ''Revista Bohemia'' magazine, and after the revolution, also for '' Verde Olivo'' and '' Trabajo''. She worked for the newspaper '' Granma'' since its founding, covering numerous national and international events (including numerous trips by Fidel Castro abroad).
