Pino Mercanti
Giuseppe Mercanti, best known as Pino Mercanti (16 February 1911 – 3 September 1986), was an Italian director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Palermo, Sicily, Mercanti was a pioneer of the Sicilian cinema as the leading filmmaker and the artistic director of the production company O.F.S. (a.k.a. Organizzazione Filmistica Siciliana), founded by the brothers Francesco and Girolamo Gorgone with the purpose of promoting the production of films on Sicilian soil. Following the bankruptcy of the company, Mercanti moved to Rome, where he directed a number of melodramas, adventure films, Spaghetti Westerns and other genre films, often international co-productions. He was sometimes credited as Joseph Trader. Brunella Bovo
Brunella Bovo (4 March 1932 – 21 February 2017) was an Italian film actress. Life and career Born in Padua, Italy, after having had her film debut with a minor role in ''Ho sognato il paradiso'' and after having not been admitted to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, in 1951 Bovo had her breakthrough role winning the audition for the role of the awkward homeless Edvige in Vittorio De Sica's neorealist fantasy-comedy '' Miracle in Milan''. Her screen debut had come in that same year in ''Streets of Sorrow''. One year later she got an equally important role, the newlywed dreamer Wanda in Federico Fellini's ''The White Sheik''. Despite the popularity gained with her early roles, her career continued mainly in B-movies, in which she was sometimes credited as Barbara Hudson. She was also active in television dramas. Ignazio Balsamo (25 October 1912 – 7 August 1994) was an Italian film and stage actor. Life and career Born in Catania, Balsamo began his career on stage, being part of several Sicilian language theatrical companies. Discovered by Pietro Germi, who offered him a role of weight in the film '' In the Name of the Law'', following the success of the film Balsamo moved to Rome where he had a long film career as a character actor, mainly cast in roles of Sicilian criminals and villains. He also worked as a production coordinator and a production runner for the companies Fortunia Film and Romana Film. Olinto Cristina (5 February 1888 – 17 June 1962) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Florence to actors Raffaello Cristina and Cesira Sabatini, Cristina began acting on stage as a child. His sisters Ines Cristina Zacconi, Jone Frigerio and Ada Cristina Almirante were also actresses. His sister Ines was the mother of actress Margherita Bagni and the grandmother of actress Nora Ricci, she married secondly Ermete Zacconi. On screen, he appeared in more than 75 films between 1932 and 1957. He also was a renowned dubber in Italian post-synchronized versions of foreign films, providing his voice for actors such as C. Mirko Ellis
Mirko Ellis (4 September 1923 – 11 September 2014) was a Swiss-Italian film, stage and television actor. Born Mirko Korcinsky in Locarno to a family of Lithuanian origin, Ellis moved, after his studies, to Italy, where he made his film debut in 1946, in a critically acclaimed role in Aldo Vergano's neorealist drama ''The Sun Still Rises''. One year later, he debuted on stage in the theatrical company of Maria Melato. He later alternated important roles and character roles, in genre films and television productions. Ellis was married to fellow actress Esther Maring, with whom he lived in Alghero, Sardinia. On 11 September 2014, Ellis fell from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment and died.
