Revelstoke () is a city in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, with a census population of 8,275 in 2021. Revelstoke is located east of Vancouver, and west of Calgary, Alberta. The city is situated on the banks of the Columbia River just south of the Revelstoke Dam and near its confluence with the Illecillewaet River. East of Revelstoke are the Selkirk Mountains and Glacier National Park, penetrated by Rogers Pass used by the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canadian Pacific Railway. South of the community down the Columbia River are the Arrow Lakes, Mount Begbie, and the Kootenays. West of the city is Eagle Pass through the Monashee Mountains and the route to Shuswap Lake. Revelstoke (electoral District)
Revelstoke was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It made its first appearance on the hustings in the election of 1903 and lasted until the 1928 election, In 1966 Revelstoke was merged with Kaslo-Slocan to form Revelstoke-Slocan, and in 1979 was merged with Shuswap to form Shuswap-Revelstoke. Revelstoke Airport
Revelstoke Airport is located south southeast of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. Expansion plan On December 7, 2011, the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District (CRSD) announced an expansion plan for the airport. While some parts of the plan are still preliminary and tentatively scheduled to take place over the course of the next few years, such as the extension of the runway, some other improvements in the Revelstoke Airport expansion include the upgrading of the terminal building and improving the airport's navigational systems. A 110 m (355 ft) runway extension was undertaken in 2014. If the expansion of the airport were to take place, the projected cost would be about $765,000. $365,000 would come from the city's Resort Municipality Initiative funding, with the other $400,000 coming from the CSRD, although the latter funds would require the approval from the CSRD board. Revelstoke Grizzlies
The Revelstoke Grizzlies are a Junior "B" Ice Hockey team based in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Doug Birks Division of the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). They play their home games at Revelstoke Forum. History The Grizzlies were founded in 1993. They won the KIJHL Championship over the Osoyoos Storm in 1998. In the 2009-10 season, they not only won their Division, and KIJHL championship over the Leafs 4-1, but they went to the Cyclone Taylor Cup and won Gold, then they went to the Keystone Cup and won Gold. On June 11, 2014, it was announced that the Grizzlies ownership had been transferred to a new group headed by Ryan Parent. Revelstoke Lake
Lake Revelstoke or Revelstoke Lake or Revelstoke Lake Reservoir is an artificial lake on the Columbia River, north of the town of Revelstoke, British Columbia and south of Mica Creek. This lake is the reservoir formed by the Revelstoke Dam, which during its construction was also known as the Revelstoke Canyon Dam, inundating the Columbia's canyon in this area and the historic Dalles des Morts (Death Rapids) and some of the former gold diggings of the Big Bend Gold Rush. Revelstoke Mountain Resort
Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) is a ski resort on Mount Mackenzie, just outside Revelstoke, British Columbia in Canada. It is owned by Northland Properties. Currently, the resort has a vertical drop, the longest vertical descent of any ski resort in North America. In terms of size, it is about the same as other major resorts, such as Breckenridge and Panorama, and about a third the size of Whistler-Blackcomb. Baron Revelstoke, of Membland in the County of Devon, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 30 June 1885 for the businessman Edward Baring, head of the family firm of Barings Bank and a member of the Baring family. Baring was the son of Henry Baring, third son of Sir Francis Baring, 1st Baronet, and the nephew of Alexander Baring, 1st Baron Ashburton, the second cousin of Francis Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook, the elder brother of Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer and the uncle of Evelyn Baring, 1st Baron Howick of Glendale. He was succeeded by his second but eldest surviving son John, the second Baron. John was a partner in Baring Brothers and Co. Edward Charles Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke (13 April 1828 – 17 July 1897), was a British banker. Early life A member of the Baring banking family, "Ned" Baring was born on 13 April 1828.
