Reus Al Norte
Reus al Norte is a historic housing area Villa Muñoz, Montevideo, Uruguay. It was planned and constructed by Emillio Reus as a habitational alternative during the urban expansion of Montevideo in the end of the 19th century. Its design achieved an ideal relation between public and private space. The neighbourhood stands out for its modernist architecture and colourful houses and has become one of the famous sights of Montevideo. Villa Muñoz - Retiro is a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay. Location This barrio borders Aguada and Reducto to the west, La Figurita to the north, La Comercial to the east and Cordón to the south. Landmarks Villa Muñoz - Retiro is home to the Reus al Norte, a picturesque and historic housing area. Main streets crossing the barrio are Defensa Str., Hocquard Str, Dr. Juan José de Amézaga, with Arenal Grande being the main shopping venue. Villa Muñoz has a big majority of Jewish inhabitants and is therefore considered "the Jewish barrio of Montevideo". The city of Montevideo, capital of Uruguay, is divided into 62 ''barrios'' (neighborhoods or districts), each with its own identity, demographic characteristics and activities appropriate to the socio-cultural level of its inhabitants. The outer barrios of Montevideo are largely rural. In a more general usage of the word ''barrio'', some people refer to the biggest large-scale residential complexes of Montevideo as barrios, although they do not appear as such in official lists. Such are the Parque Posadas in Aires Puros, the Euskal Erría complexes in Malvin Norte and others.
