Return To Treasure Island (TV Series)
''Return to Treasure Island'' is a 1986 Disney HTV TV series, starring Brian Blessed as Long John Silver, Christopher Guard as Jim Hawkins and Kenneth Colley as Ben Gunn. Disney Channel contracted the UK ITV broadcaster HTV Wales, part of Harlech Television Group, to produce the series, and it was shot in Wales, Spain and Jamaica. It was written by John Goldsmith, and directed by Piers Haggard and Alex Kirby. HTV Wales had already produced other Robert Louis Stevenson books for television, namely ''Kidnapped'' in 1979 and ''The Master of Ballantrae'' in 1984 and producer Patrick Dromgoole would go on to helm ''Treasure Island''. ''The Master of Ballantrae: A Winter's Tale'' is an 1889 novel by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, focusing upon the conflict between two brothers, Scottish noblemen whose family is torn apart by the Jacobite rising of 1745. He worked on the book in Tautira after his health was restored. Variant openings In the first edition of 1889 the book began with Chapter One, "Summary of Events During the Master's Wanderings". For the second edition (known as the ''Edinburgh Edition'') Stevenson added a preface in which he pretended to have been given the manuscript by an acquaintance. Kidnapped (novel)
''Kidnapped'' is a historical fiction adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, written as a boys' novel and first published in the magazine ''Young Folks'' from May to July 1886. The novel has attracted the praise and admiration of writers as diverse as Henry James, Jorge Luis Borges, and Hilary Mantel. A sequel, ''Catriona'', was published in 1893. The narrative is written in English with some dialogue in Lowland Scots, a Germanic language that evolved from an earlier incarnation of English. ''Kidnapped'' is set around real 18th-century Scottish events, notably the "Appin Murder", which occurred in the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745. Robert Louis Stevenson (born Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson; 13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer. He is best known for works such as ''Treasure Island'', ''Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'', '' Kidnapped'' and ''A Child's Garden of Verses''. Benjamin "Ben" Gunn is a fictional character in the 1883 novel ''Treasure Island'' by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. Appearances ''Treasure Island'' Ben Gunn is an ex-crewman of Captain Flint's who has been marooned for three years on Treasure Island by his crewmates, after his failure to find the treasure without the map. Jim Hawkins is a fictional character and the protagonist in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel ''Treasure Island''. He is both the protagonist and main narrator of the story.
