Return Of The Tyrant
''Return of the Tyrant'' is the second EP release by Australian heavy metal band Lord. The title track is an almost ten-minute sequel to the song "Tarranno del Mar", which appeared on the Dungeon album ''One Step Beyond''. Despite being over an hour in length, the band marketed this release as an EP. The release also features both an orchestral and radio edit of "Return of the Tyrant", plus versions of "Of Sins and Shadows" by Symphony X and "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew. There are also acoustic versions of songs from the Lord albums ''Ascendence'' and '' Set in Stone'' and of the Dungeon songs "Against the Wind" and "Paradise". The original project was intended as two separate EPs, one featuring just the acoustic songs and another with the new track and covers, but eventually all the songs were released together. Lord (band)
Lord (sometimes stylized as LORD) is a heavy metal band from Wollongong, Australia. The group began as a solo project for "Lord Tim" Grose of Dungeon in 2003 and expanded into a complete band when Dungeon broke up in 2005. LORD has appeared with major acts that include Queensrÿche, Nightwish, Nevermore, Saxon and Gamma Ray. The band's name is usually stylised in all capital letters. History Between 1988 and 2000, Dungeon singer/guitarist and founding member "Lord Tim" Grose had collected a number of compositions he felt were either too personal to submit to the band or inappropriate for its style. In 2003, he collected these songs on an album called '' A Personal Journey'' that was issued under the name LORD. Thomas Miller (bassist)
Thomas Miller was the original bassist of Symphony X prior to current member Michael Lepond. Miller left the band along with drummer Thomas Walling for their unwillingness to tour for the support of Symphony X's fourth studio album, '' Twilight in Olympus''. Miller has been a composer of the Symphony X's studio albums '' The Damnation Game'', ''The Divine Wings of Tragedy'', and ''Twilight in Olympus''. Miller wrote the lyrics to the songs "Of Sins and Shadows," "The Eyes of Medusa," "Candlelight Fantasia," and part of "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" from the album of the same name. Tim Yatras is an Australian musician, composer and producer, best known as one half of the now defunct black metal duo Austere, and the creator of the black metal/rock/trance act Germ. Biography Yatras was a member of Lord, and prior to that was also a part of Dungeon from February 2005 until their breakup, and appears on the 2006 release, '' The Final Chapter'', performing drums and backing vocals, and co-writing most of the tracks. He is also a session musician on the studio-based Newcastle band Ilium's albums, ''Vespertilion'', and ''Ageless Decay''. He toured as a member of Nazxul in 2004, and later performed Drums and Keyboards on the band's album, Iconoclast, in 2008. Nick Van Eede (born Nicholas Eede, 14 June 1958) is an English musician, producer and songwriter. He is best known for singing and writing the 1986 No. 1 power ballad, "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" for his band Cutting Crew, which saw international success including a top 10 placing on the UK Singles Chart. Career 1978–1981 While working as a hospital orderly in the late 1970s, Van Eede was discovered playing by ex-member of the Animals, Chas Chandler, who sent him on a tour of Poland as support for Slade. Van Eede was only 18 when sent on the road. He recalls, "I went with a kazoo and an acoustic guitar and opened for Slade in amphitheatres in front of 18,000 people. Michael is one of two Symphony X members to appear on all nine of the band's albums (the other being Michael Romeo). Michael James Romeo (born March 6, 1968) is an American guitarist and a founding member of the progressive metal group Symphony X. Ascendence
''Ascendence'' is the second album by the Australian heavy metal band Lord. It was released on 4 September 2007 by the Melbourne label Modern Invasion and in Japan by Soundholic. Overview Pre-production work began on the album in late 2006. In January 2007 Lord Tim started a thread on the band's online forum that detailed the writing and recording process, also revealing that the artwork for the album had already been completed, by the Colombian artist Felipe Machado Franco. ''Ascendence'' was recorded at Main Street Studios and the band's studio in Wollongong, Australia. The pop singer Tania Moran recorded backing vocals for several songs and guest musicians Chris Brooks and Mark Furtner added guitar solos in four tracks.
