Retizhe
The Retizhe ( bg, Ретиже) is a river in south-western Bulgaria, a right tributary of the Mesta. The river is 19 km long and drains parts of the eastern slopes of the Pirin mountain range. The river takes its source from Pirin's largest and deepest glacial lake, Popovo, at an altitude of 2,234 m. At an altitude of 2,174 m near the Fish Popovi Lakes it is joined by two mountain streams — one from the north sloping down the summit of Polezhan (2,851 m), and one from the west coming from the Polezhanski Lakes. Further downstream another stream coming from the Kremenski Lakes flows into the Retizhe. It then flows in north-eastern direction in a deep valley, forming rapids and small waterfalls. Downstream the valley becomes deeper and is covered with dense forests. Some four kilometres before its mouth the Retizhe turns in eastern direction and forms a deep impassable canyon. Retizhe Cove
Retizhe Cove ( bg, залив Ретиже, ‘Zaliv Retizhe’ \'za-liv re-ti-'zhe\) is the 5.8 km wide cove indenting for 6.2 km on the south coast of Trinity Peninsula in Graham Land, Antarctica. Part of Duse Bay, entered between Boil Point to the west and Garvan Point to the east. The cove is named after the Retizhe River in Pirin Mountain, Southwestern Bulgaria. Popovo Lake
The Popovo Lake () is a glacial lake situated in the northern section of the Pirin mountain range, south-western Bulgaria. It is one of the eleven Popovi Lakes. The lake and its surroundings are among the most popular places for summer tourism in Pirin National Park. It is situated at the bottom of the Popovski cirque and is surrounded by the peaks Sivria (2,591 m), Dzhano (2,668 m), Kralev Dvor (2,680 m), Momin Dvor (2,723 m) and Dzhengal (2,730 m). The lake is situated at an altitude of 2,234 m. Popovo Lake is Pirin's largest by area and volume, and also the deepest one in the massif. It has the shape of irregular pentagon and features a small islet. The maximum length is 480 m; the width is 336 m. Momina Klisura (Mesta)
Momina Klisura ( bg, Момина клисура, meaning ''Maiden's Gorge'') is a steep valley along the river Mesta in south-western Bulgaria, stretching about 25 km. Administratively, it is situated in the municipalities of Bansko and Gotse Delchev, Blagoevgrad Province. According to the legend, the gorge was named after a maiden, who fought the Ottoman Turks defending the fortress of Momina Kula and plunged into the abyss upon seeing that the stronghold was about to fall. Geography Momina Klisura forms the divide between the Pirin Mountains in the west and the westernmost ridge of the Rhodope Mountains, Dabrash, in the east. It links the south-easternmost part of the Razlog Valley in the north and the northernmost part of the Gotse Delchev Valley in the south. Polezhan
Polezhan ( bg, Полежан , known pre-1942 as Mangar Tepe ( ) is a 2,851 m cone shaped high peak in the Pirin mountain range, south-western Bulgaria. It is the highest granite summit in Pirin and the fourth highest in the mountain range after the marble peaks Vihren (2,914 m), Kutelo (2,908 m) and Banski Suhodol (2,884 m). It is situated on the Polezhan side ridge which also includes the summits of Malak Polezhan (2,822 m), Gazey (2,761 m), Bezbog (2,645 m), Kaymakchal (2,763 m) and Disilitsa (2,700 m), as well as the imposing edge of Strazhite. The closest mountain refuge is Bezbog named after homonymous peak which lies near Polezhan. Depending on weather conditions the mountain refuge is about 2-3h from Polezhan. Kremenski Lakes
Kremenski Lakes () are a lake group in the Pirin mountains, southwestern Bulgaria composed of two larger and two smaller lakes situated in a narrow but salient cirque of the same name. They are surrounded by the peaks Sivriya and Dzhano and the Kremenski elevation which ends with Kremenski peak. *The Upper Kremen lake is situated at 2,352 m altitude.
