Retford United Football Club (also known as the Badgers) are an English football club based at Cannon Park in Retford, Nottinghamshire. They currently play in the . History The club was founded in 1987 by Retfordian Brian Jackson to give the town a senior club after Retford Town had gone out of business. The club's inaugural season was in the Gainsborough & District League which was successful so it applied to join the Notts Football Alliance the following season and competed in that league up until 2001, when local business man Dean Vivians financial support, built the club house, ground, floodlights , everything necessary to rise up the football pyramid and they joined the Central Midlands League. Promotion after promotion followed and Just three years passed before another milestone was reached and the club joined the Northern Counties East League. Retford (), also known as East Retford, is a market town in the Bassetlaw District in Nottinghamshire, England, and one of the oldest English market towns having been granted its first charter in 1105. It lies on the River Idle and the Chesterfield Canal passes through its centre. Retford is east of Sheffield, west of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, Lincoln and north-east of Nottingham. The population at the 2011 census was 22,013. In 1878 an Act of Parliament extended the borough of East Retford to include the village of Ordsall, Nottinghamshire, Ordsall, West Retford and part of the parish of Clarborough. It is administered by Bassetlaw District Council, which itself is now a non-constituent partner member of the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority. 2023–24 Northern Counties East Football League
The 2023–24 season is the 42nd in the history of the Northern Counties East Football League, a football competition in England. The allocations for Steps 5 and 6 this season were announced by The Football Association on 15 May 2023. Starting this season, the Premier Division (Step 5) in the league will promote two clubs; one as champions and one via a four-team play-off. This replaces the previous inter-step play-off system. For this season only, there will be only one club relegated from the division. The Northern Premier League is an English football league that was founded in 1968. It has four divisions: the Premier Division (which stands at level 7 of the English football league system), Division One East, Division One West and Division One Midlands (which stand at level 8).
