Resch's is a brand of beer produced by Carlton and United Breweries, available in New South Wales, Australia. It was also the name of the Sydney brewing company who produced the beer brand and were based in Redfern until taken over by Tooth and Co. in 1929. History Resch's Limited was a Sydney-based brewery founded by Edmund Resch. The company collapsed in 1929, at which time it was taken over by Tooth and Co. The name lived on in the brands of beer that continued to be produced. Waverley Brewery closed in 1983, and was redeveloped into the Moore Park Gardens Apartment Development by Dealruby in the 1990s. By the 2000s Resch's DB (Double Bitter) and DA (Dinner Ale) had been phased out of production. Carlton And United Breweries
Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) is an Australian brewing company based in Melbourne and owned by Japanese conglomerate Asahi Breweries. Its notable brands include Victoria Bitter, Carlton Draught, Foster's Lager, Great Northern, Resch's, Pure Blonde and Melbourne Bitter. CUB was established in 1907 as a merger of six existing breweries with Carl Pinschof as chairman and became a public company in 1913. It first expanded outside Victoria in 1931 and acquired a number of other brewing companies over the following decades. In 1983 it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Elders IXL and CUB was delisted from the stock exchange. Resch's Limited
Resch's Limited was an Australian brewing company. It was incorporated in July 1906 to manage the brewing interests of German immigrant Edmund Resch, who had owned regional breweries before buying out Sydney brewer Allt's and then building his own brewery. It operated the "Waverley Brewery" in the Sydney suburb of Waterloo. Resch operated the company until his death in 1923, after which time it was operated by his sons. In July 1929, Tooth and Co. purchased the company's assets for approximately £2,500,000 and it was placed into voluntary liquidation. Their brand continues in 2018 as Resch's, now owned by Carlton and United Breweries. Beer production in Australia has traditionally been dominated by regional producers. Since the 1980s, there have been a steady stream of takeovers and amalgamations, and now the two major producers (who were once Australian-owned) are Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) and Lion. In December 2011, CUB became a subsidiary of British multinational SABMiller (the world's then-second-largest international brewing company) and in October 2016 CUB became 100% owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) the world's largest brewing company, based in Belgium. Movember
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. It is a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, "mo", and "November". The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health." Edmund Resch
Edmund Resch (9 June 1847 - 22 May 1923) was a German-Australian brewer. He founded and operated the successful brewing company Resch's Limited, the name of which survives today as beer brand Resch's. Resch was born in Hörde in Westphalia (now Germany) and migrated to Australia in 1863 at age 16, reportedly to evade compulsory military service. He was a miner in Victoria and a succession of rural towns in New South Wales in the early 1870s before building and operating a hotel in Charters Towers in Queensland for four years. In 1877, he bought a cordial and aerated water factory at Wilcannia in far western New South Wales with one of his brothers. In 1883, they purchased a brewery at Cootamundra and named it the Lion Brewery, opening branches at Silverton and Tibooburra, but dissolved the partnership in 1885, after which Resch retained the Wilcannia interests and returned to brewing there.
