United States Republican Party
The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the Two-party system, two Major party, major contemporary political parties in the United States. The GOP was founded in 1854 by Abolitionism in the United States, anti-slavery activists who opposed the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which allowed for the potential expansion of Slavery#Chattel slavery, chattel slavery into the western territories. Since Ronald Reagan's Presidency of Ronald Reagan, presidency in the 1980s, Conservatism in the United States, conservatism has been the dominant ideology of the GOP. GOPAC
GOPAC is a Republican (GOP) state and local political training organization. Although often thought of as a PAC, or Political Action Committee, it is actually a 527 organization. History GOPAC was founded by Delaware Governor Pierre S. du Pont, IV in 1978 in "an effort to build a farm team of Republican officeholders who could then run for congress or higher state offices later". On February 1, 2007, former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele became the chairman and served until his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee in January 2009. The current chairman of GOPAC is David Avella. Log Cabin Republicans
The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) is an organization within the Republican Party which advocates for equal rights for LGBT+ Americans. History Log Cabin Republicans was founded in 1977 in California as a rallying point for Republicans opposed to the Briggs Initiative, which attempted to ban homosexuals from teaching in public schools. In addition to sanctioning the termination of openly gay and lesbian teachers, the proposed legislation authorized the firing of those teachers who publicly "supported" homosexuality. While mounting his imminent presidential campaign, Ronald Reagan publicly expressed his opposition to the discriminatory policy. Reagan's condemnation of the bill—epitomized in a letter sent to a pro-Briggs group, excerpts of which were re-printed in the ''San Francisco Chronicle'' in 1978—played an influential role in the eventual defeat of the Briggs Initiative. Lincoln–Roosevelt League
The Lincoln–Roosevelt League (officially known as the League of Lincoln-Roosevelt Republican Clubs) was founded in 1907 by California journalists Chester H. Rowell of the ''Fresno Morning Republican'' and Edward Dickson of the ''Los Angeles Express''. Initially, it was a coalition of progressive Republican activists. Although it never had more than 100 members, the league was instrumental in the election of Hiram Johnson as governor of California in 1910 and the formation of the national Progressive Party in 1912. Republican National Coalition For Life
The Republican National Coalition for Life (RNCL), often stylized as RNC/Life, is an organization formed to maintain the commitment of the Republican Party of the United States to anti-abortion principles. Its current executive director is Colleen Parro. History RNC/Life was founded by Phyllis Schlafly in the autumn of 1990 after two groups, Republicans for Choice and National Republican Coalition for Choice, publicly announced their intention to provoke a floor fight at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston, Texas in order to remove the anti-abortion plank from the convention platform. Liberty Caucus
The House Liberty Caucus was a congressional caucus consisting of conservative, libertarian, and libertarian conservative members of the United States House of Representatives. It hosted a bimonthly luncheon in Washington, D.C. The group was founded by Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan and joined by Republican members who wanted to "focus on specific issues like economic freedom, individual liberty, and following the Constitution". During his time in Congress, Jared Polis of Colorado was the only Democratic member of the caucus. The caucus was characterized as "conservative with a libertarian emphasis" and was associated with the Tea Party movement. When the 117th Congress convened, there was not new leadership. Republican Leadership Council
The Republican Leadership Council (RLC or RLC-PAC) was founded in 1993 as the Committee for Responsible Government. It was a United States political advocacy group and political action committee that promoted Republican candidates who choose a platform that the organization characterized as "fiscally conservative, socially inclusive." Issues championed by the RLC include small government, lower taxes, balanced budgets, environmental protection and school choice, often including school vouchers. Kansas Traditional Republican Majority
The Kansas Traditional Republican Majority (KTRM) is a political action committee founded in 2005 that supports more state government programs (especially education) and moderate social policies. It is connected to the Republican Main Street Partnership. Becky Johnson chairs the group. KTRM's website states, "Our Republican Party must be a model that not only claims the mantle of Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Nancy Kassebaum, but that is also willing to embody their values." KTRM is notable for opposing the conservative Republican members of the state school board who wanted to introduce the teaching of Creationism or Intelligent Design at various times in 2005 and 2006. The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), formerly the National Jewish Coalition, founded in 1985, is a political group in the United States that supports Jewish Republicans. The organization has more than 47 chapters throughout the United States. Purpose The official mission statement of the RJC is to foster and enhance ties between the American Jewish community and Republican decision makers in the United States. According to its website, the RJC "works to sensitize Republican leadership in government and the party to the concerns and issues of the Jewish community, while articulating and advocating Republican ideas and policies within the Jewish community." The International Republican Institute (IRI) is an American nonprofit organization. Most of its board is drawn from the Republican Party. The Idaho Federation of Reagan Republicans was an independent Republican Party activist group in the United States that seeks to build on the legacy of Ronald Reagan by "Actively Building the New Conservative Majority"; its precursor organization was the Kootenai County Reagan Republicans, and its president is Jeff Ward. Huck PAC is the political action committee of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. It was founded in April 2008 by Huckabee, during the 2008 United States Republican presidential primaries.
