Republican Alternative (Spain)
Republican Alternative ( es, Alternativa Republicana, ALTER) is a Spanish political party formed in 2015 by the merger of various small left-wing Republicanism in Spain, republican parties. The Left Republican Party (Catalan language, Catalan: ''Partit Republicà d'Esquerra'', PRE) is its branch in Catalonia. History AR was formed by Spanish Republican Democratic Action, a faction of Republican Left (Spain, 1977), Republican Left and the Catalonia, Catalan Left-wing Republican Party. The founding congress was held in Vallecas on May 25 and 26, 2013. In its Statutes AR is ideologically defined as left-wing, democratic, republican, radical, secular, federalist and environmentalist. In the Spanish local elections, 2015, municipal elections of 2015 AR gained 2 local councillors, Pedro Gómez in Segorbe (Valencian Community) and Gabriel Salguero Lafuente in Montgat (Catalonia). Republicanism in Spain is a political position and movement that holds that Spain should be a republic. There has existed in Spain a persistent trend of republican thought, especially throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, that has manifested itself in diverse political parties and movements over the entire course of the history of Spain. While these movements have shared the objective of establishing a republic, during these three centuries there have surged distinct schools of thought on the form republicans would want to give to the Spanish State: unitary or federal. Segorbe is a municipality in the mountainous coastal province of Castelló, autonomous community of Valencia, Spain. The former Palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli now houses the city's mayor. The 2015 Spanish local elections were held on Sunday, 24 May 2015, to elect all 67,515 councillors in the 8,122 municipalities of Spain and all 1,040 seats in 38 provincial deputations. The elections were held simultaneously with regional elections in thirteen autonomous communities, as well as elections in the three foral deputations of the Basque Country, the four island councils in the Balearic Islands and the seven island cabildos in the Canary Islands. Vallecas was a municipality of Spain that disappeared as such in 1950, when its annexation to the Municipality of Madrid was effectuated. Nowadays it is a large neighborhood of Madrid composed of two districts: Puente de Vallecas (population 240,917) and Villa de Vallecas (population 65,162). Overview Vallecas is known for its working-class inhabitants who have given it the local names Vallekas or Valle del Kas.
