Republic Of Peščenica
The Republic of Peščenica ( Croatian: Republika Peščenica) was a satirical-parodical project of Croatian Željko Malnar named after the Zagreb neighbourhood of Peščenica. Events were aired on anti-TV-show Nightmare Stage (''Noćna mora''), on Saturdays from 22:00 until the early morning hours on Z1, and transmitted via satellite. Events were described in short version in Malnar's column in the Globus magazine from Zagreb. For a short period of time, shortened (and censored) versions of previous shows were aired on Croatian national TV in May 2007 (as "Privremeni tjednik"; only five episodes). It was located in Peščenica, a working-class neighbourhood in Zagreb. The neighbourhood is in the northern part of the city (northwards from Sava river), southeastwards from the city center. Croatian Language
Croatian (; ' ) is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian pluricentric language used by Croats, principally in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian province of Vojvodina, and other neighboring countries. Željko Malnar
Željko Malnar (12 April 1944 – 9 July 2013) was a Croatian maverick traveller, writer and a fringe television celebrity, best known for his own weekly show ''Nightmare Stage'' and his satirical micronation the Republic of Peščenica. Biography His first expedition was in 1964 in the area of Perućica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the last remaining primeval forest in Europe. Between 1965 and 1995 he traveled the Middle East, Africa, South America, Oceania, Pakistan and India in numerous expeditions. He co-wrote the book ''U potrazi za staklenim gradom'' (''In pursuit of the glass city''). In the period between 1970 and 1974 he studied philosophy and mass media in India and the Indian philosopher Swami Ashram Shama, which allowed him to gain more insight into Indian society. He ended studies as the best foreign student. He received diploma personally from Indian president V. V. Giri. Stara Peščenica
Stara Peščenica () is a neighborhood located in the northwestern corner of the Peščenica – Žitnjak administrative city district of Zagreb, Croatia. It is bordered by Zvonimirova Street and the J. F. Kennedy Square on the north, Budakova Street on the east, railway (later Branimirova Avenue) on the south and Vjekoslav Heinzel Avenue on the west. It has a population of 5,700 (2011). The neighborhood's name (translated to English as ''Old Peščenica'') correctly displays it both as the oldest part of what is today Peščenica - Žitnjak district, and having a rich history. History Stara Peščenica began as a village in the vicinity of Zagreb in the 19th century. ''Nightmare Stage by Željko Malnar'' (original title in English, later also in Croatian ''Noćna mora Željka Malnara'') was a late night talk show hosted by maverick traveler and author Željko Malnar. It was broadcast live on Croatian TV station OTV from October 3, 1992 to 2005, then picked up by Z1 from 2005 until the show's end on June 26, 2010. The contact anti-show pushed the boundaries of Croatian television programming. Its air time varied during its run, starting at 10:00 p.m. or midnight on Saturday night, with a flexible ending time, typically between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. The host threw all tact and taste through the window, taking rough manners from the street to the screen without either diluting them with etiquette or stylizing them for theatrical effect. Zagrebačka Televizija (Television of Zagreb), also known as Z1 Televizija, is a local commercial television station based in capital city of Croatia, Zagreb. ''Globus'' is a Croatian language weekly news magazine published in Zagreb, Croatia. History and profile ''Globus'' was started in 1990, having some of its first issues published during the Croatian War of Independence. The founders are Ninoslav Pavic, Denis Kuljiš and Zdravko Jurak. The magazine is based in Zagreb. It is owned by Europapress holding (EPH) media group, one of the largest media publishing companies in the country.
