''Sennichite'' (千日手, ''lit.'' "moves (for) a thousand days") or repetition draw is a rule in shogi stating that the game will end in a draw if the same position is repeated four times during a game as long as the repetitions do not involve checks. Explanation If the same game position occurs four times with the same player to move and the same pieces in hand for each player, then the game ends in ''sennichite'' iff the positions are not due to perpetual check. (Perpetual check is an illegal move, which ends the game in a loss in tournament play.) In professional shogi, a ''sennichite'' outcome is not a final result of a match as draws essentially do not count. There can be only one victorious through wins. This is a significant difference from western chess, in which a player can play specifically to obtain draws for gaining half points. In shogi, Third File Rook (三間飛車 ''sangenbisha'' or ''sankenbisha'') is a class of Ranging Rook openings in which the rook is positioned on the third file if played by White or the seventh file if played by Black. Types There are two basic forms of Third File Rook. The first form is similar to other normal Ranging Rook openings such as Fourth File Rook. Here, the bishop is moved to the 77 square (Black) or the 33 square (White) often in order to prevent a Static Rook opponent's pawn exchange on the eighth (or second) file. Perpetual Check
In the game of chess, perpetual check is a situation in which one player can a draw by an unending series of checks. This typically arises when the player who is checking cannot deliver checkmate, and failing to continue the series of checks gives the opponent at least a chance to win. A draw by perpetual check is no longer one of the rules of chess; however, such a situation will eventually allow a draw claim by either threefold repetition or the fifty-move rule. Players usually agree to a draw long before that, however. Perpetual check can also occur in other forms of chess, although the rules relating to it might be different. Threefold Repetition
In chess, the threefold repetition rule states that a player may claim a draw if the same position occurs three times during the game. The rule is also known as repetition of position and, in the USCF rules, as triple occurrence of position.Article 14K.2 in Two positions are by definition "the same" if the same types of pieces occupy the same squares, the same player has the move, the remaining castling rights are the same and the possibility to capture ''en passant'' is the same. The repeated positions need not occur in succession. Many basic tactics (手筋 ''tesuji'', also translated as 'clever move') of shogi are similar to those of chess tactics, involving forks, pins, removing the defender and other techniques, all of which are considered very strong when used effectively. However, other tactics, particularly ones involving dropped pieces, have no parallel in western chess. Yoshiharu Habu
is a professional shogi player and a chess FIDE Master. His master is Tatsuya Futakami. He is the only person to simultaneously hold seven major professional shogi titles at the same time and is also the only person to qualify as a lifetime title holder for seven major titles. In January 2018, Habu became the first professional shogi player to be awarded Japan's People's Honour Award. Early life Yoshiharu Habu was born in Tokorozawa, Saitama in 1970 and moved to Hachioji, Tokyo before entering kindergarten. Akira Watanabe (shogi Player)
is a Japanese professional shogi player ranked 9-dan. He is the current holder of the Meijin, and Kiō major titles, and also a former holder of the Kisei, Ōshō, Ōza and Ryūō titles. He is also a Lifetime Kiō and a Lifetime Ryūō title holder. Early life Watanabe was born on April 23, 1984, in Katsushika, Tokyo. He learned how to play shogi from his father, who was an amateur 5-dan ranked player. He won the in 1994 as a fourth-grade student at Hokizuka Elementary School. Double Fortress
The Double Fortress (相矢倉 or 相櫓 ''aiyagura'') is a shogi opening in which both players construct Fortress formations. Double Fortress games are the most common type of Fortress games found at all levels of play. Historical Fortress Earlier josekis for Fortress in the Edo period (usually spelled 櫓 at that time) were very different from the current josekis. In one variation, White delays pushing their rook pawn (whereas Black delays the rook pawn push in the modern era) and there is an early bishop trade before both players' kings are moved into their castles.
