René Nyberg
Ernst René Anselm Nyberg (born 13 February 1946, in Helsinki) is a long-time Finnish diplomat and a former CEO of the East Office consultancy company. He retired in 2013. Nyberg graduated from a German school of Helsinki in 1965 and a bachelor of political science from the University of Helsinki in 1969. In 1971, he joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and took up various duties in Moscow, Leningrad, Brussels, Bonn and Permanent Representatives of Finland to the OSCE in Vienna between 1992 and 1995. In 2000, he was appointed Ambassador to Moscow and in 2004 he became Ambassador to Berlin. Nyberg started as the Managing Director of East Office in 2008. Since 2016, he serves as a director/trustee of the School of Civic Education in London, which forms part of an association of schools of political studies, under the auspices of the Directorate General of Democracy (“DGII”) of the Council of Europe. Kaisa Nyberg is a Finnish cryptographer and computer security researcher. Contributions Nyberg's research includes the theory of perfect nonlinear S-boxes (now known as Nyberg S-boxes), provably secure block cipher design (resulting in KN-Cipher, and the cryptanalysis of the stream ciphers E0 and SNOW. Education and career Nyberg received her Ph.D. in mathematics in 1980 from the University of Helsinki. Her dissertation, ''On Subspaces of Products of Nuclear Fréchet Spaces'', was in topology, and was supervised by Edward Leonard Dubinsky. Finnish Jews
The history of the Jews in Finland goes back to the 1700s. Finnish Jews are Jews who are citizens of Finland. The country is home to some 1,800 Jews, of which 1,400 live in the Greater Helsinki area and 200 in Turku. Most Jews in Finland have Finnish or Swedish as their mother tongue, and many speak Yiddish, German, Russian and Hebrew. Jews originally came to Finland as Russian soldiers who stayed in Finland in the 19th century after their military service ended (knows as Cantonists). There are Jewish congregations in Helsinki and Turku with their own synagogues built in 1906 and 1912. The expression 'Eastern European Jewry' has two meanings. Its first meaning refers to the current political spheres of the Eastern European countries and its second meaning refers to the Jewish communities in Russia and Poland.
