Renu Saikia (10 December 1934 – 17 November 2011)http://ghy.wapka.mobi/site_renu_saikia.xhtml was a prolific actress in the Assamese film industry, who later became famous as character actress, appearing in three well renowned films bringing a new change to Assamese cinema and theatre, where she appeared in hits like ''Maniram Dewan'' (1963), made by Harbeshwar Chakraborty, ''Dr. Bezbaruah'' (1968), made by Brojen Baruah and ''Ratanlal'' (1970s). Her other memorable roles were in some well-known stage plays, ''Kalyani (drama), Kalyani'', ''Joymoti (drama), Joymoti'', ''Nimila Angko'', ''Taxi Driver'' and ''Rajpath'' - one of the most famous drama-act, which made her way towards the Assamese cinema. Nipon Goswami
Nipon Goswami (3 September 1942 – 27 October 2022) was an Indian actor and theatre artist associated with Assamese language, Assamese-language films. He was one of the veteran actors of Assamese Film Industry. He started his acting career as a stage actor and later established himself as a film actor. Personal life Goswami was born on 3 September 1942 at Kolibari in Tezpur, Assam. His father Chandradhar Goswami was a famous actor and his mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer. He did his primary schooling at Kolibari LP School. After that, he moved to Tezpur Govt. HS School. He died after suffering from heart-related ailments on 27 October 2022, at the age of 80. Acting career After completing his B.A. he went to Calcutta for the interview at Pune Film Institute. In 1965, he went to Pune for his acting training. Maniram Dewan
Maniram Dutta Baruah, popularly known as Maniram Dewan (17 April 1806 – 26 February 1858), was an Assamese nobleman in British India. He was one of the first people to establish tea gardens in Assam. A loyal ally of the British East India Company in his early years, he was hanged by the British for conspiring against them during the 1857 uprising. He was popular among the people of Upper Assam as "Kalita Raja" (king of the Kalita caste). Early life Maniram was born into a family that had migrated from Kannauj to Assam in the early 16th century. His paternal ancestors held high offices in the Ahom court. The Ahom rule had weakened considerably following the Moamoria rebellion (1769–1806). During the Burmese invasions of Assam (1817–1826), Maniram's family sought asylum in Bengal, which was under the control of the British East India Company. Assamese Language
Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a ''lingua franca'' of the wider region. The easternmost Indo-Iranian language, it has over 23 million speakers. Nefamese, an Assamese-based pidgin, is used in Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagamese, an Assamese-based Creole language, is widely used in Nagaland. The Kamtapuri language of Rangpur division of Bangladesh and the Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri districts of India are linguistically closer to Assamese, though the speakers identify with the Bengali culture and the literary language. In the past, it was the court language of the Ahom kingdom from the 17th century.
