Reno (Nevada Gaming Area)
Reno is only 14 miles over the California border. The Nevada Gaming Commission groups it as one gaming region, with a total of five casinos earning more than $72 million in the last fiscal year. In other reports the Reno region is consolidated with the Sparks region which is only four miles farther east on Interstate 80. Washoe County () is a county in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 486,492, making it Nevada's second-most populous county. Its county seat is Reno. Washoe County is included in the Reno, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Washoe County was created on November 25, 1861, as one of the original nine counties of the Nevada Territory. Nugget Casino Resort (formerly Dick Graves' Nugget and John Ascuaga's Nugget) is a casino hotel in Sparks, Nevada. It is operated by Century Casinos. The main portion of the casino consists of two 29-story towers nestled between Interstate 80 and the Union Pacific rail yard. Harrah's Reno is a closed casino hotel in downtown Reno, Nevada. It is owned by CAI Investments, which plans to renovate the building as a mixed-use development named Reno City Center. It is credited for being the first property of the Harrah's casino chain, founded by William F. Harrah. History William F. The Nevada Gaming Commission is a Nevada state governmental agency involved in the regulation of casinos throughout the state, along with the Nevada Gaming Control Board. In 1959, the Nevada Gaming Commission ("Commission") was created by the passage of the Gaming Control Act ("Act"), Nevada Revised Statutes Chapters 462–466, by the Nevada Legislature.
