Rencontre East, Newfoundland And Labrador
Rencontre East is a small, outport community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada located north east of Belleoram, and west of Terrenceville in Fortune Bay. The population was 115 in the 2021 census. This small community is not connected to any surrounding areas by road but is accessible by scheduled ferry service from ports in Pool's Cove and Bay L'Argent. All of the roads are dirt and ATVs are the main source of transportation. The community uses breakwaters to hold the roads in place and keep the water from washing them away. The main industry is cod and lobster fishing. Rencontre East was the location of one of only a few molybdenum mines in Canada's history. The mine was located at Ackley City at Rencontre Lake just north of the town. The mine was closed soon after, with only two-thousand tonnes of mineral being exported. The town has two grocery stores, a volunteer fire department, an all grade school (St. Stephen's) and a community centre. There are two churches, o ...

La Rencontre Imprévue
''La rencontre imprévue, ou Les pèlerins de la Mecque'' Wq. 32 (''The Unexpected Encounter, or The Pilgrims to Mecca'') is a three-act ''opéra comique'', composed in 1763 by Christoph Willibald Gluck to a libretto by Louis Dancourt after the 1726 '' comédie en vaudeville'' ''Les pèlerins de la Mecque'' by Alain-René Lesage and d'Orneval. The death of Isabella of Parma, the archduke's wife, occasioned a revision of the spoken text downplaying the feigned death by which princess Rezia tests her beloved. The work was first performed in this form as ''La rencontre imprévue'' at the Burgtheater, Vienna on 7 January 1764. Dancourt's original text, titled ''Les pèlerins de la Mecque'' and designated as a ''comédie mêlée d'ariettes'', was not premiered until 1990 (see Recordings). Performance history Gluck's longest ''opéra-comique'' and considered his finest, ''La rencontre imprévue'' was his most popular work in the genre in the 18th century. It was performed in Frenc ...

Diogenes And Alexander
The meeting of Diogenes of Sinope and Alexander the Great is one of the most discussed anecdotes from philosophical history. Many versions of it exist. The most popular relate it as evidence of Diogenes' disregard for authority, wealth, and decorum. Plutarch and Diogenes Laërtius report that Alexander and Diogenes died on the same day, in 323 BC. Although this coincidence is suspect (since neither man's date of death can be conclusively verified), the anecdote, and the relationship between the two people, has been the subject of many literary and artistic works over the centuries, from the writings of Diogenes Laërtius to David Pinski's 1930 dramatic reconstruction of the encounter, ''Aleḳsander un Dyogenes''; including writings from the Middle Ages, several works of Henry Fielding, and possibly even Shakespeare's ''King Lear'' along the way. The literature and artwork influenced by this story are extensive. Versions upon versions of the anecdote exist, with the origins ...
