Renault 6Q-11
The Renault 6Q, also called the Renault Bengali 6, is an air-cooled six-cylinder, inverted piston engine, producing about continuous power. It was designed and built in France and produced for more than ten years after its homologation in 1936, with large numbers built during World War II. Design and development The six-cylinder Renault 6Q and the four-cylinder Renault 4P, both from the early 1930s, shared the same bore, stroke and pistons. The 6Q was built in both unsupercharged and supercharged forms. The centrifugal supercharger was added at the back of the engine, driven off the crankshaft via step-up gearing. It added to the weight and to the length but boosted the performance at altitude to a continuous power of at 2,500 rpm and . The Caudron Simoun was a 1930s French four-seat touring monoplane. It was used as a mail plane by Air Bleu, flew record-setting long-range flights, and was also used as a liaison aircraft by the ''Armée de l'Air'' during World War II. A tappet is most commonly a component in an internal combustion engine which converts the rotating motion of the camshaft into linear motion of the valves, either directly or indirectly. An earlier use of the term was for part of the valve gear in beam engines beginning in 1715. Austenite, also known as gamma-phase iron (γ-Fe), is a metallic, non-magnetic allotrope of iron or a solid solution of iron with an alloying element. The SNCASE SE-1210 was an experimental French flying-boat designed and built by SNCASE as a flying scale model of the proposed SE-1200 transatlantic flying boat. Design and development Following the end of the Second World War, the French aircraft manufacturer SNCASE proposed a very large, long-range flying boat, the SE-1200, which was intended to carry 125 passengers across the Atlantic Ocean. The SE-1200, with a wingspan of and a maximum takeoff weight of and powered by eight Arsenal 24H engines in four tandem pairs (the Arsenal 24H was a 24-cylinder H-24 engine based on components of the Junkers Jumo 213), would have been one of the largest aircraft in the world if completed. The SNCASE SE-700 was a three-seat passenger autogyro designed during World War II. Two were completed but only the first flew and the programme was soon abandoned. Design and development Design of the SE-700 began in 1939 but World War II delayed its completion and first flight until 25 May 1945. Compared with most autogyros of its time it had a very advanced appearance, with a sleek, streamlined fuselage, an enclosed central engine and a three blade rotor on a straight edged, aerofoil section pylon. The enclosed cabin, which seated three, was ahead of the engine and behind a nose which tapered smoothly into the spinner of the two blade propeller. The Potez 661 was a four-engined metal low-wing monoplane airliner developed in France just before World War II. The single example flew with Air Afrique on French colonial routes. Design and development In 1936 the well-established Potez company became part of the Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautique du Nord ( S.N.C.A.N.), under the Law for the Nationalisation of Military Industries. In 1937 they produced their first four-engined aircraft, the Type 661. This was a commercial machine with seating for up to twelve passengers. It was a low wing cantilever, almost all-metal monoplane.
