Remziye Tosun
Remziye Tosun is a Kurdish politician from Turkey who has been a deputy of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the Turkish parliament since the parliamentary elections in June 2018. In March 2020, Tosun was charged by prosecutors with "inciting the public to enmity and hatred or humiliating." On 11 September 2020, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "membership of a terrorist organisation". Tosun was born in Diyarbakir in 1981. She was a primary school teacher, and is listed by the Turkish Grand National Assembly website as being able to speak Kurdish well. She was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly as a XXVII term representative for Diyarbakir for the HDP. Peoples' Democratic Party (Turkey)

2018 Turkish Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Turkey on 24 June 2018 as part of general elections, with presidential elections taking place on the same day. Originally scheduled for 3 November 2019, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called snap elections on 18 April after months of speculation. With the passage of a series of constitutional amendments in the 2017 referendum, the number of MPs will be increased from the previous 550 to 600. These representatives will be elected by the constituents of the 87 electoral districts of Turkey by party-list proportional representation. Sur is one of the central districts of Diyarbakır Province in Turkey. It is a historic place situated inside the Diyarbakır Fortress. The district takes its name from the castle walls ( tr, sur). Background Sur district was founded in Diyarbakır Province in 2008 as the central historic settlement.
