Remy Namaduk
Remy Gerard Namaduk (born 1949) is a Nauruan politician and former member of the cabinet and member of parliament. He represented the Anetan Constituency. Namaduk participated in the parliamentary elections in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and in the April elections of 2010, but only the 2003 elections gave him a place in the Parliament of Nauru. He lost his parliamentary mandate to Vassal Gadoengin in 2004. He held several portfolios in the cabinets of René Harris, including Minister of Education and Minister for Economic Development and Minister for Transport and Telecommunications. He served as Minister Assisting the President of Nauru in all of the cabinets of René Harris between 1999 and 2003. Nauruans are a nation and an ethnic group indigenous to the Pacific island country of Nauru. They are most likely a blend of Micronesian, Melanesian and Polynesian ancestry. The origin of the Nauruan people has not yet been finally determined. It was probably seafaring or shipwrecked Polynesians or Melanesians, who established themselves there because there was not already an indigenous population present, whereas the Micronesians were already crossed with the Melanesians in this area. The Nauruans have two elements of their population: the native Micronesians and the Polynesians who had immigrated long before. The Micronesians are represented through coarse, dark hair; the Polynesians are lighter brown and have smoother black hair. Through these two extremes, diverse traditions came to exist. Vassal Abago Bagobagan Gadoengin (May 1, 1943 – December 15, 2004) was a political figure from the Pacific nation of Nauru. Background Vassal attended school in the United States. He attended Skagit Valley College, Mt. Vernon, Wa., in the late 1960s. He continued his education in Portland, Oregon in the early 1970s. Before entering a political career, which he did not do until he was aged in his mid-50s, Gadoengin had been working as a teacher.
