Remote, Oregon
Remote is an unincorporated hamlet in Coos County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It lies near the confluence of Sandy Creek with the Middle Fork Coquille River. Remote was named by local pioneers for its distance from other settlements. Its post office was established in 1887. A new post office, besides a store, gas station, and unofficial town hall building, was built in 1924 by L. D. Jennings. Oregon Route 42 used to run through the center of the community, but realignment of the highway has left Remote several hundred yards away, along a side road, around a bend and down below the highway, largely shielded by trees from highway view. The town now consists of a combined store with gas pump and post office (closed in 1998), and a couple of houses. The Sandy Creek Covered Bridge is nearby. Sandy Creek (Middle Fork Coquille River)
Sandy Creek is a tributary of the Middle Fork Coquille River in the U.S. state of Oregon. It begins near Scott Mountain in the Southern Oregon Coast Range and flows southwest to meet the river near the rural community of Remote. The creek passes under Oregon Route 42 and enters the river about from its mouth on the South Fork Coquille River near Myrtle Point. The creek's only named tributary is Fetter Creek, which enters from the right slightly upstream of Remote. The Sandy Creek Bridge, a covered bridge, crosses the creek in a park near its mouth at Remote. The bridge, which originally carried Route 42 over the creek, is on display in the park. Amenities at Sandy Creek Covered Bridge Park include a footbridge, picnic tables, restrooms, and an information booth. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Boring, Oregon
Boring is an unincorporated community in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. It is located along Oregon Route 212 in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range, approximately southeast of downtown Portland, and northeast of Oregon City. A bedroom community, Boring is named after William Harrison Boring, a Union soldier and pioneer whose family built a farm in the area in 1856, before Oregon had received statehood. The community was officially platted in 1903 after the Portland Railway, Light and Power Company constructed an electric rail line, which operated from Portland to Cazadero. The former railway is now part of the Springwater Corridor, a rail trail which begins in Boring and ends at the Eastbank Esplanade along the Willamette River in southeast Portland. Oregon Route 42 (OR 42) is an Oregon state highway which runs between U.S. Route 101 on the Oregon Coast, near Coos Bay, and Green, a few miles south of Roseburg on Interstate 5. OR 42 traverses the Coos Bay–Roseburg Highway No. 35 of the Oregon state highway system. The route splits at Coquille, where Oregon Route 42S heads southwest toward Bandon. The section of Oregon Route 42 between the junction with U.S. Route 101 south of Coos Bay and the junction with Oregon Route 42S in Coquille was once a part of U.S. Route 101. When U.S. Route 101 was moved to an alignment closer to the ocean in 1961-63, Oregon Route 42 was extended along the northernmost section and Oregon Route 42S was created along the southernmost section. Middle Fork Coquille River
The Middle Fork Coquille River is a tributary, about long, of the South Fork Coquille River in the U.S. state of Oregon. It begins near Camas Mountain in Douglas County in the Southern Oregon Coast Range. It flows generally south, bypassing the community of Camas Valley while passing through the valley of the same name, then curves west and north to Remote in Coos County. The Middle Fork then flows generally west, passes by the small community of Bridge, and meets the South Fork near Myrtle Point. The confluence with the South Fork is by water to where the main stem of the Coquille River enters the Pacific Ocean at Bandon. Coos County ( ) is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 64,929. The county seat is Coquille. The county was formed from the western parts of Umpqua and Jackson counties. It is named after a tribe of Native Americans who live in the region.
