Remixed (EP)
''Remixed'' is an extended play by British musician Elton John. It was released on 30 December 2003 through the Rocket Record Company, his own label. Included is an edited version of "Are You Ready for Love" which was a number 1 hit in the UK in 2003. Overview ''Remixed'' features five alternate versions of some of John's most popular songs. Both edited and extended versions of "Are You Ready for Love" (originally from 1979's ''The Thom Bell Sessions'') are included. The version of "Candle in the Wind" included consists only of the guitar and vocals from the original track. " Rocket Man '03" comes from a promotional 12" single and is also known as the "Hani Mix". The remix of " Song for Guy" dates back to the CD single for " The Last Song" (1992). Elton John
Sir Elton Hercules John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947) is a British singer, pianist and composer. Commonly nicknamed the "Rocket Man" after his 1972 hit single of the same name, John has led a commercially successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 31 albums since 1969. Candle In The Wind
"Candle in the Wind" is a threnody written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was originally written in 1973, in honour of Marilyn Monroe, who had died 11 years earlier. In 1997, John performed a rewritten version of the song, " Candle in the Wind 1997", as a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. In 2004, ''Rolling Stone'' ''Magazine'' listed the original version of the song at No. 347 of its 500 greatest songs of all time. Original version The original version, which is in the key of E major appeared on John's 1973 album '' Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'' and was released as a single in 1974. The lyrics of the song are a sympathetic portrayal of the life of Marilyn Monroe. The song's opening line "Goodbye, Norma Jean" refers to Monroe's real name, Norma Jeane (more commonly spelled Jean) Baker. Bernie Taupin
Bernard John Taupin (born 22 May 1950) is an English songwriter, singer and visual artist. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with musician Elton John, a songwriting partnership that is one of the most successful in history. Taupin has written the lyrics for most of John's songs. In 1967, Taupin answered an advertisement in the music paper '' New Musical Express'' placed by Liberty Records, a company that was seeking new songwriters. "Song for Guy" is a mainly instrumental piece of music by English musician Elton John. It is the closing track of his 1978 album, ''A Single Man''. Musical structure The song opens with an octaved solo piano, which is then accompanied by a looped Roland CR-78 drum machine, with occasional shaker and wind chimes alternating; other keyboards are often layered in shortly after, with a bass guitar mainly accompanying this. It is instrumental until the end, in which the words "Life – isn't everything (3x)" are repeated over the primary melody. It stands as one of the few songs written by Elton John alone and the only instrumental piece of music made by himself to be released as a lead single. The Thom Bell Sessions
''The Thom Bell Sessions'' (internationally titled as ''The Thom Bell Sessions '77'') is an EP recorded by Elton John in the second half of 1977, but was not released by MCA Records until June 1979. The project was a departure for John, and his band was not used for these sessions. Until that time, he had worked almost exclusively with lyricist Bernie Taupin and record producer Gus Dudgeon. This project brought Elton John together with R&B songwriter and producer Thom Bell, who had previously worked with such artists as The Stylistics, The Delfonics and The Spinners (American band), The Spinners. Apparently, relations between the producer and the artist became difficult rather quickly. Although John was eager to work with one of the creators of the Philadelphia soul sound, recording sessions did not go smoothly and ended before an entire album could be finished.
