Remaiten
Remaiten is malware which infects Linux Linux on embedded systems, on embedded systems by Brute-force attack, brute forcing using frequently used default username and Default password, passwords combinations from a list in order to infect a system. Remaiten combines the features of the Tsunami and BASHLITE, LizardStresser (aka Torlus) malware families. The command and control for Remaiten are handled by IRC communications. Additionally the command and control is done by an actual IRC channel rather than only the IRC protocol. This is an improvement over bots such as Tsunami and BASHLITE, Torlus making Remaiten a greater threat than both combined. To avoid detection, Remaiten tries to determine the platform of a device to download the architecture-appropriate component from the command & control server. Mirai (malware)
Mirai (from the Japanese word for "future", 未来) is a malware that turns networked devices running Linux into remotely controlled bots that can be used as part of a botnet in large-scale network attacks. It primarily targets online consumer devices such as IP cameras and home routers. The Mirai botnet was first found in August 2016 by MalwareMustDie, a white hat malware research group, and has been used in some of the largest and most disruptive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, including an attack on 20 September 2016 on computer security journalist Brian Krebs' website, an attack on French web host OVH, and the October 2016 Dyn cyberattack. Hajime (malware)
Hajime (Japanese for "beginning") is a malware which appears to be similar to the Wifatch malware in that it appears to attempt to secure devices. Hajime is also far more advanced than Mirai, according to various researchers. The top countries infected by the malware were Iran, Brazil, Vietnam, Russia and Turkey, followed by India, Pakistan, Italy and Taiwan. Malware Hajime is a worm according to sources which have placed research on the subject. It appears to have been discovered as early as October 2016. Later in April 2017, Hajime generated large media coverage as it appeared to be in competition with Mirai. Brute-force Attack
In cryptography, a brute-force attack consists of an attacker submitting many passwords or passphrases with the hope of eventually guessing correctly. Where a device needs a username and/or password to log in, a default password is usually provided that allows the device to be accessed during its initial setup, or after resetting to factory defaults. BASHLITE
BASHLITE (also known as Gafgyt, Lizkebab, PinkSlip, Qbot, Torlus and LizardStresser) is malware which infects Linux systems in order to launch distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS). Originally it was also known under the name Bashdoor, but this term now refers to the exploit method used by the malware. It has been used to launch attacks of up to 400 Gbps. The original version in 2014 exploited a flaw in the bash shell - the Shellshock software bug - to exploit devices running BusyBox. A few months later a variant was detected that could also infect other vulnerable devices in the local network. In 2015 its source code was leaked, causing a proliferation of different variants, and by 2016 it was reported that one million devices have been infected.
