Regular Records
Regular Records was an Australian record label based in Sydney that operated from 1978 until the mid-1990s. Regular Records released music by acts including Mental As Anything, Icehouse (band), Icehouse, and The Cockroaches. The Regular Records label was founded in 1978 by Martin Fabinyi and Cameron Allan. The label was associated with music recording and publishing company Festival Records. The act first signed to the label was Mental as Anything. The second act signed to label was "Flowers" who later changed their name to Icehouse (band), Icehouse. Regular signed Brisbane band The Riptides in 1981. In 1986 Regular signed The Cockroaches, who later went on to form the nucleus of The Wiggles. Acts also signed to Regular included I'm Talking, Electric Pandas and The Reels. In the early 1990s, Regular signed Sydney band The Welcome Mat, and distributed the independent label Half a Cow. Cameron Allan died in 2013. Martin Fabinyi
Martin Fabinyi is an Australian film and television producer and director, songwriter and music label owner and has written books on the local rock music scene. He was the chief executive officer of Mushroom Pictures from its formation in 1993 to 2009. His film projects include the features '' Chopper'' (2000), ''Gettin' Square'' (2003), Wolf Creek (2005) and '' Macbeth'' (2006). Fabinyi was profiled by ''Variety'' and named one of the most influential people in the Australian film industry by '' Screen International'' magazine. In 1978 Fabinyi and composer Cameron Allan formed the label Regular Records, initially for releases by pop and R&B band, Mental As Anything. Deckchairs Overboard
Deckchairs Overboard were an Australian pop music band based in Sydney which formed in 1982 and disbanded in 1985. The early line-up featured Ken Campbell on vocals, guitar, and drums; John Clifforth on vocals, guitar, and keyboards; Paul Hester on drums (later of Split Enz and Crowded House); and Cathy McQuade on bass guitar and vocals. Most of the group's initial members had been in the Melbourne group The Cheks (1980–1982) with the exception of McQuade, who had been a member of The Ears. Deckchairs Overboard released the minor hit singles "That's The Way" (1983), with Campbell on vocals, "Shout", (1983) with McQuade on vocals, "Walking in the Dark" (1984) and "Fight For Love" (1985) both with Clifforth on vocals, all of which received airplay on TV and radio. Dog Trumpet
Dog Trumpet, originally known as Reg & Peter's Dog Trumpet, is an Australian rock band, founded in 1990 by brothers Reg Mombassa (aka Chris O'Doherty) and Peter O'Doherty, original members of Australian new wave and pop rock band Mental As Anything. The brothers formed as an outlet for their own material. The Dog Trumpet sound reflects affection for 1960s pop and psychedelia. Mombassa and O'Doherty formed the duo Reg & Peter/Peter & Reg (they alternated names whenever interviewed). SPK (band)
SPK were an Australian industrial music and noise music group formed in 1978. They were fronted by mainstay member, Graeme Revell on keyboards and percussion. In 1980 the group travelled to the United Kingdom where they issued their debut album, ''Information Overload Unit''. In 1983 Sinan Leong joined on lead vocals. The group disbanded in 1988. Two years later Revell and Leong relocated to the United States, where Revell works as a Hollywood film score composer. The Johnnys
The Johnnys are an Australian pub rock band from Sydney forming in 1982 and still active today that combines country and punk musical styles. Members are Graham Hood, Billy Pommer Jr and Slim Doherty and have included founder, Roddy Ray'da (aka Roddy Radalj) and Spencer P. Jones. History The Johnnys formed in 1982 in Sydney when bass guitarist Graham Hood tried out for the Hoodoo Gurus after quitting the Allniters. He met Hoodoo Gurus' guitarist Roddy Ray'da (aka Roddy Radalj) and they discussed an idea for a side project: playing pub rock in a country music style at a punk pace—which was labelled as cow punk.
