Regionalliga Südwest (1963–1974)
The Regionalliga Südwest was the second-highest level of the German football league system in the southwest of West Germany from 1963 until the formation of the 2. Bundesliga in 1974. It covered the states of Saarland and Rheinland-Pfalz. Overview Along with the Regionalliga Südwest went another four Regionalligas, these five formed the second tier of German football until 1974: *Regionalliga Nord, covering the states of Niedersachsen, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Hamburg *Regionalliga West, covering the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen *Regionalliga Berlin, covering West-Berlin * Regionalliga Süd, covering the states of Bayern, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg The new Regionalligas were formed along the borders of the old post-World War II Oberligas, not after a balanced regional system. Regionalliga 1963-1974
The Regionalliga () is the fourth tier in the German football league system. Until 1974, it was the second tier in Germany. In 1994, it was introduced as the third tier. Upon the creation of the new nationwide 3. Liga in 2008, it became the fourth tier. While all of the clubs in the top three divisions of German football are professional, the Regionalliga has a mixture of professional and semi-professional clubs. Eintracht Kreuznach
Eintracht Bad Kreuznach is a German association football club from city of Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate. They are among the most successful amateur football teams in southwestern Germany but, after a couple of consecutive relegations, now find themselves in the tier eight Bezirksliga Nahe. History The club was established as ''Fußball Club Kreuznach'' on 18 June 1902 and later, in 1907 merged with ''Sport Club 1906 Kreuznach'' to become ''1. FC Kreuznach''. ASV Landau
ASV Landau is a German association football club from the town of Landau, Rhineland-Palatinate. The club's greatest success has been promotion to the tier one Oberliga Südwest in 1949 and 1953, spending three seasons at this level. After the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1963 ''ASV'' became part of the tier two Regionalliga Südwest where it played in 1963–64 and, again, from 1969 to 1974. The club has also taken part in the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, on two occasions, in 1974–75 and 1975–76. Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde is a German association football club based in Nentershausen, Rhineland-Palatinate. __TOC__ History Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde were formed in 1966 as a merger of local teams SC Großholbach, TuS Girod-Kleinholbach, VfR Nomborn, TuS Heilberscheid and TuS Nentershausen. The oldest of these clubs was founded in 1919, which is recognized as the official founding year. Eisbachtal immediately began their rise through the league system and eventually reached the Regionalliga Südwest in 1972, then the second-highest tier in German football. VfB Theley is a German association football club from the Theley suburb of the town of Tholey, Saarland. The club's greatest success has been promotion to the second tier 2. Oberliga Südwest in 1958 where it played for five seasons. After the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1963 Theley spent another three seasons at the second tier, now the Regionalliga Südwest before dropping out of higher level football altogether in 1974. Theley also made two appearances in the DFB-Pokal, in 1974–75 and 1976–77, but was knocked out in the second round at each occasion. Fußball-Club 08 Homburg or simply FC Homburg is a German association football club based in Homburg, Saarland, that competes in the Regionalliga Südwest. The club was founded on 15 June 1908 as ''Fussball Club Homburg'' by a group of seventeen young men at the local Hohenburg pub. TuS Koblenz is a German association football club, located in Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate. Fussball Club Deutschland Neuendorf, which was formed in 1911, is viewed as the foundation of the modern club. The points of the compass are a set of horizontal, radially arrayed compass directions (or azimuths) used in navigation and cartography. SV Röchling Völklingen is a German association football club that plays in Völklingen, part of the greater Saarbrücken, Saarland. The club draws its name from the Röchling family, owners of the Völklingen Ironworks steel factory, a former sponsor of the club which closed down in 1986. FK Pirmasens is a German association football club in Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate. The team was formed as the football section of the gymnastics and sports club TV Pirminia Pirmasens in 1903 and became independent in 1914. They took on their current name in 1925.
