Region 10 (Johannesburg)
Region 10 was an administrative district from 2000 to 2006 in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. It included most of Soweto. Soweto is a composite name, standing for South-Western Townships. So even this eastern region of it lay not to the south of central Johannesburg, but south of Florida Florida is a state located in the Southeastern region of the United States. Florida is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the northwest by Alabama, to the north by Georgia, to the east by the Bahamas and Atlantic Ocean, and to .... Soweto
Soweto () is a township of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, bordering the city's mining belt in the south. Its name is an English syllabic abbreviation for ''South Western Townships''. Formerly a separate municipality, it is now incorporated in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, and one of the suburbs of Johannesburg. History George Harrison and George Walker are today credited as the men who discovered an outcrop of the Main Reef of gold on the farm Langlaagte in February 1886. The fledgling town of Johannesburg was laid out on a triangular wedge of "uitvalgrond" (area excluded when the farms were surveyed) named Randjeslaagte, situated between the farms Doornfontein to the east, Braamfontein to the west and Turffontein to the south. Florida, Gauteng
Florida is a location in Gauteng province, South Africa. It is located about 16 kilometres west of Johannesburg. The area which is referred to as Florida was originally established as the farm ''Vogelstruisfontein''. Today, it is a suburb of Roodepoort. History ''Vogelstruisfontein'' and the farms ''Roodepoort'' and ''Paardekraal'' were established as mining camps after the discovery of gold in 1881. The suburb was laid out in 1889 and then proclaimed the following year on 14 April 1890 and by 1904 became a suburb of Roodepoort. It was either named after Florida, USA or the suburb's originator Hendrik van Hoven whose late niece was called Florrie.
