Reginald Macaulay
Reginald Heber Macaulay (24 August 1858 – 15 December 1937) was an amateur English footballer and merchant. He won the FA Cup with Old Etonians in 1882 and made one appearance for England in 1881 playing as a forward. Family background Macaulay was born in Hodnet, Shropshire, son of a rector of the parish who was cousin of the historian Lord Macaulay. Classical scholar George Campbell Macaulay was a brother, through whom author Rose Macaulay was his niece. His forenames appear to have been given after Bishop Reginald Heber (1783-1826), also an earlier rector of Hodnet. Career Macaulay was educated at Eton College, where he played for the college "soccer" team in 1878. He went up to King's College, Cambridge, where he won a Cambridge University "Blue" in 1881 and 1882. Hodnet, Shropshire
Hodnet ( ) is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. The town of Market Drayton lies 5.7 miles (9.2 km) north-east of the village. In 2011 the parish had a population of 1534. History Evidence of a Bronze Age burial site was discovered during construction of the bypass in 2002. The Anglo-Saxon settlement, which had a chapel, was the centre of Odenet, a royal manor belonging to Edward the Confessor and held by Roger de Montgomery who supported William the Conqueror after 1066. Hodnet was recorded in the ''Domesday Book'' as Odenet. Baldwin de Hodenet built a motte and bailey castle in about 1082 possibly on a moated mound from earlier times. The timber castle was rebuilt in sandstone around 1196 but was burned down in 1264. Hodnet Castle was mentioned in a document of 1223. Arthur Dunn
Arthur Tempest Blakiston Dunn (12 August 1860 – 20 February 1902) was a noted amateur footballer who founded the English boarding school Ludgrove in 1892. Education Dunn was born in Whitby, Yorkshire on 12 August 1860, the son of a Cambridge University mathematics professor. He was educated at Eton College, then entered Trinity College, Cambridge in 1880, graduating B.A. in 1884, and M.A. in 1887. Football career Dunn played football for Eton College, and was a Cambridge University football blue in 1883 and 1884. C.W. Alcock described Dunn, who usually played inside-left as "A good centreforward, rather light, but has plenty of pluck, and is a sure shot at goal", and "has great pace, and both dribbles and middles well". 1879 AAC Championships
The 1879 AAC Championships were two outdoor track and field competitions organised by the Amateur Athletic Club (AAC) and London Athletic Club (LAC). The first was the usual annual AAC championships, held at the Lillie Bridge Grounds on 7 April 1879. A second championships was organised in the Summer of 1879 to allow for the growing demand of club athletes to compete. Previously the championships in March were organised largely to suit the availality of university athletes. The Summer Championships were held on Saturday 14 June and Monday 16 June 1879 at the Stamford Bridge Running Grounds in England.
