Reggie Nicholson
Reginald "Reggie" Nicholson (born July 17, 1957) is an American jazz drummer. Nicholson took a bachelor's degree in percussion performance at Chicago State University and became a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1979, working early in his career with Ed Wilkerson. In the 1980s he played with Amina Claudine Myers, Henry Threadgill, and Ernest Dawkins; he relocated to New York City in 1988 but continued his associations with Threadgill and Dawkins there. For much of the 1990s he worked with Myra Melford, and also worked in that decade with Muhal Richard Abrams, Michael Marcus, Roy Campbell, Wilber Morris, Don Pullen, Billy Bang, Charles Gayle, Leroy Jenkins, Thomas Chapin, Reuben Wilson, and Jim Nolet. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles. New Orleans jazz began in the early 1910s, combining earlier brass band marches, French quadrilles, biguine, ragtime and blues with collective polyphonic improvisation. Reuben Wilson
Reuben Wilson (born April 9, 1935) is a jazz organist. He performs soul jazz and acid jazz, and is best known for his title track "Got to Get Your Own". He was born in Mounds, Oklahoma and his family moved to Pasadena when he was 5. He played in Los Angeles with drummer Al Bartee, then moved to New York to begin a recording career. In addition to playing with jazz musicians Melvin Sparks and Willis Jackson, Wilson led the local band Wildare Express. He remains an active musician, and still resides in New York City. Lindsey Horner
Lindsey Horner (born October 4, 1960, New York City) is an American jazz double-bassist. Horner studied double bass at the Juilliard School of Music as well as musicology and philosophy at Trinity College (Dublin). He also took private lessons with Milt Hinton and Dave Holland. Since 1982 he has directed his own groups; his first two CDs ''Never No More'' (1991) and ''Mercy Angel'' (1995) were rated five out of five stars by ''Down Beat''. He also conducted the group "The Chromatic Persuaders" together with the pianist Neal Kirkwood and was a member of the trio of Myra Melford (''Alive in the House of Saints'', 1993) and the quartet of . ''La Tierra del Fuego'' is the second album by American jazz trumpeter Roy Campbell, recorded in 1993 and released on the Delmark label. Music The album reflects Roy's interest in World music. Anthony Braxton (born June 4, 1945) is an American experimental composer, educator, music theorist, improviser and multi-instrumentalist who is best known for playing saxophones, particularly the alto. Braxton grew up on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, and was a key early member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
