The Reformist Party ( sr, Реформистичка странка / Reformistička stranka, abbr. RS), also known as the Reformists (Реформисти / Reformisti) was a minor Niš-based regionalist political party in Serbia. Party was founded and led by Aleksandar Višnjić, political activist, former member of Otpor! and Democratic Party (DS) and professor at Faculty of Medicine of the University of Niš. History The Reformists took part in the 2007 parliamentary election as an independent list and won no seats finishing the last with only 0.05 percent of vote or 1,881 votes. It is one of four parties that won less than 10,000 votes even though they had to submit exactly the same number of signatures in order to be able to run in the elections. It also had a candidate for the 2008 presidential election, its vice-president Jugoslav Dobričanin. Aleksandar Višnjić
Aleksandar Višnjić ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Вишњић, born 20 March 1976) is a Serbian politician. He was the leader of Reformist Party (Serbia), Reformist Party which took part as an independent list in 2007 Serbian parliamentary election, 2007 and 2008 Serbian parliamentary election, 2008 parliamentary elections, but won no seats. He was a member of the Democratic Party (Serbia), Democratic Party (DS), but left in 2004/5. Vladimir Cvijan
Vladimir Cvijan ( sr-cyr, Владимир Цвијан; 24 November 19765 January 2018) was a Serbian lawyer and politician. From 2004 until 2010, he served as the legal advisor and General Secretary to President of Serbia Boris Tadić. After joining then opposition Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), he became a member of the party presidency and one of the most prominent members. From 2012 until 2014, he served as the SNS member of the National Assembly. Cvijan was later an independent representative in the parliament and an active dissident for a short period until his unnoticed disappearance in 2014. In 2014, Cvijan abruptly disappeared from public life. He died by drowning in the Danube on 5 January 2018 in Belgrade, Serbia, according to the Belgrade Higher Public Prosecutor Office in March 2021. Serbian Progressive Party
The Serbian Progressive Party ( sr-cyrl, Српска напредна странка, Srpska napredna stranka, SNS) has been the ruling political party of Serbia since 2012. Founded by Tomislav Nikolić and Aleksandar Vučić in 2008 as a split from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the SNS served in opposition to the Democratic Party (DS) for the next several years. Running on an anti-corruption platform, it managed a strong performance in the 2009 Belgrade local elections, and in the same year, became the strongest opposition party. 2008 Serbian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Serbia on January 20 and February 3, 2008. Incumbent President Boris Tadić was re-elected as president in the second round with 51% of the vote, defeating challenger Tomislav Nikolić. The elections for president were the first since Serbia became independent, when the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro was dissolved by the secession of Montenegro in 2006. The first round of elections was held on January 20, 2008, when none of the candidates secured an absolute majority of the votes cast. 2007 Serbian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 21 January 2007 to elect members of the National Assembly. The first session of the new National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was held on 14 February 2007. The elections enabled the coalition of DS; DSS & G17+ to continue. Electoral system The d'Hondt method was used to distribute parliamentary mandates following the election. Parties and coalitions had 10 days following the announcement of the final results to decide which candidates will take their allotted seats in parliament.
