Reform Jersey
Reform Jersey is a social-democratic political party in Jersey, a British Crown Dependency in the Channel Islands. History Formation Reform Jersey was founded in 2012 as a pressure group by Montfort Tadier, Nick Le Cornu, Jason Cronin and Sam Mézec. On 24 April 2014, Deputies Mézec and Le Cornu announced that it would become a party to contest the 2014 general election scheduled for October. It was legally registered as a political party at the Royal Court on 4 July 2014. Reform Jersey founding member Deputy Nick Le Cornu was expelled from the party in September 2014 for posting an offensive Tweet about another politician. Candidates For the 2014 general election on 15 October 2014, Reform Jersey put up eight candidates. Sam Mézec
Samuel Yves Mézec (born 26 December 1990), is a Jersey politician who is the leader of Reform Jersey. He has been a member of the States Assembly since 2014, serving as both a Deputy and later as a Senator. Political career Mézec was elected as the Deputy for the St. Helier No. 2 district after winning that seat in a by-election on 5 March 2014. He held the seat in the general election held later that year on 15 October. He co-founded and, until June 2019, was the Chairman of Reform Jersey, one of the island's political parties. He stood in the Senatorial by-election held on 7 September 2016 but came second to Sarah Ferguson. Mézec was elected as Senator in the 2018 general election with 40.8% of the popular vote, and on the 3rd of July 2018, he was the first politician to take on the combined role of Minister of Children and Housing. 2022 Jersey General Election
The 2022 Jersey general election was held on June 22 to elect the 49 members of the States Assembly. Timeline In March 2021, it was announced the election could be held in June, rather than as regular in May, to minimise the impact of the four bank holidays which would fall during the election campaign period otherwise. The election purdah period began on 10 May 2022, limiting the activities of the Council of Ministers to business as usual activities. Electoral system The 2022 elections are the first to be held under a new electoral system. Under the system, the role of Senators is abolished and replaced with 37 Deputies elected across 9 districts via plurality block voting. The election of one Connétable from each of the twelve parishes is maintained. New Deal
The New Deal was a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the United States between 1933 and 1939. Anthropogenic Climate Change
In common usage, climate change describes global warming—the ongoing increase in global average temperature—and its effects on Earth's climate system.
