Irish House Of Commons
The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. However, the Chief Secretary for Ireland was usually a member of the Irish parliament. In the Commons, business was presided over by the Speaker. Dungarvan () is a coastal town and harbour in County Waterford, on the south-east coast of Ireland. Prior to the merger of Waterford County Council with Waterford City Council in 2014, Dungarvan was the county town and administrative centre of County Waterford. Waterford City and County Council retains administrative offices in the town. The town's Irish name means "Garbhann's fort", referring to Saint Garbhann who founded a church there in the seventh century. Rathcormack (Parliament Of Ireland Constituency)
Rathcormack was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons from 1611 to 1800. It was a mix of potwalloping and a Manor Borough established by charter and remained tied to the borough and surrounding area. The franchise was vested in the £5 and until 1793, Protestant freeholders and after 1782 a year's residence was necessary. It was disenfranchised on the 1 January 1801 on the coming into force of the Acts of Union 1800 and compensation of £15,000 was paid to the representatives of the Tonson family.
