Redlands District Rugby League Football Club
The Redlands District Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1950 and plays out of Pinklands Reserve, in Thornlands, Queensland. Redlands seniors compete in the Brisbane Rugby League and the Brisbane Second Division Rugby League while the junior teams compete in the Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League. Brisbane Rugby League
The Brisbane Rugby League is a rugby league football competition in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was first held in 1922 and for every year until 1997. The competition was reinstated in 2001, known as the FOGS premiership under the Queensland Cup. The competition consists of Brisbane's top six rugby league clubs. Each participating team is a feeder club for the Queensland Cup. Prior to 1922, the competition was conducted under the auspices of the Queensland Rugby League. Until the 1980s it was the premier sporting competition in Brisbane, attracting large crowds and broad media coverage. The Brisbane Rugby League however, had been in slow decline for some 15 years as large numbers of its players left to compete in the more lucrative Sydney Rugby League, and began to lose popular interest with the creation of the Brisbane Broncos in 1988. Thornlands is a coastal residential locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the , Thornlands had a population of 14,694 people. The area is now primarily suburban residences, with the southern parts rural residences, comprising larger landblocks. The population is growing rapidly due to new housing developments. Geography Thornlands is located approximately east-south-east of Brisbane, the capital of the Queensland. Major access to Thornlands is provided by Boundary Road, Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, or Wellington Street. It is predominantly used for residential purposes, but some parts in the south of the locality are still used for farming. History Thornlands began as part of the area then encompassed by Cleveland, and was leased (along with most of the land between Ormiston and the Logan River), to Joseph Clarke. Brisbane Second Division Rugby League
The Brisbane Second Division Rugby League is the second division of rugby league clubs in Brisbane. History In 1971 the Brisbane Rugby League began a second division competition. This competition was for Under 23 teams in three grades, and was contested by the BRL clubs, University, Teachers and eight "satellite" clubs. By 1977 there were 15 teams competing in Northern and Southern Zones. Since 1981 the Second Division has used Davies Park, West End as its headquarters and finals venue. There are four teams from 1971 that are still competing in the Second Division: Brighton, St Brendans, Sunnybank and Bulimba Valleys (formerly Valley United Stars). The most successful clubs between 1977 and 2004 have been Sunnybank (13 Premierships), Carina (12 premierships), St Brendans (10) and Banyo (8).
