''Redfieldia'', known as blowout grass, is a monotypic genus in the grass family (Poaceae). The sole species, ''Redfieldia flexuosa'', is native to sandhills in the western and central United States. The plants grow in small clusters, protecting each other from the harsh desert conditions. Description The flowering culms are tall. The inflorescence is an open panicle with solitary spikelets on narrow pedicels. Each spikelet has between two and six florets. The glumes have pointed tips and are narrower than the fertile lemma. The lemma has three veins and hairy margins. The glumes are persistent after fruiting. It spreads with elongated rhizomes. The Redfield ratio or Redfield stoichiometry is the consistent atomic ratio of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus found in marine phytoplankton and throughout the deep oceans. The term is named for American oceanographer Alfred C. Redfield who in 1934 first described the relatively consistent ratio of nutrients in marine biomass samples collected across several voyages on board the research vessel Atlantis, and empirically found the ratio to be C:N:P = 106:16:1. While deviations from the canonical 106:16:1 ratio have been found depending on phytoplankton species and the study area, the Redfield ratio has remained an important reference to oceanographers studying nutrient limitation. In quantum mechanics, the Redfield equation is a Markovian master equation that describes the time evolution of the reduced density matrix of a strongly coupled quantum system that is weakly coupled to an environment. The equation is named in honor of Alfred G. Redfield, who first applied it, doing so for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. There is a close connection to the Lindblad master equation. If a so-called secular approximation is performed, where only certain resonant interactions with the environment are retained, every Redfield equation transforms into a master equation of Lindblad type. Redfield School Historic District
The Redfield School Historic District encompasses a Depression-era school complex at 101 School Street in Redfield, Arkansas. The property is owned and managed by the nonprofit Friends of Redfield School Historic District and was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2014. History The first school on this site was a log school built in 1882. Later, a frame school was built and then replaced in 1914 with a two-story brick school and it was torn down to build the Works Progress Administration school. The school, built in 1939 with funding from the WPA, was the only project of the New Deal in Redfield. Buildings and sites The main building of the Redfield School Historic District is an H-shaped single-story brick building, 15,000 sq ft, with a dormered gable roof.
