Redfern To Chatswood Railway Line
Sydney Metro City & Southwest is a rapid transit project currently under-construction in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The project will extend the Metro North West Line from on the North Shore, to in the city's south-west via the Sydney central business district. The centrepiece of the project is a new twin-tunnel rail crossing under Sydney Harbour and through the city to . Together with planned improvements to the Main Western line, the project is expected to increase capacity on the Sydney rail network by up to 60%, and allow for the movement of over 100,000 extra commuters across the network every hour. The project began construction in 2017 and is planned to open by 2024. Tunnelling was completed in March 2020. It is estimated that it will eventually cost up to $16.8 billion due to budget blowouts and station redesigns. The first–and currently the only line on the Sydney Metro network, it commenced operation on 26 May 2019, running between and . Liverpool railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main South line, serving the Sydney suburb of Liverpool in Australia. It is served by Sydney Trains T2 Inner West & Leppington, T3 Bankstown and T5 Cumberland services. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The town (now suburb) of Liverpool on the Georges River was one of the earliest settlements of the colony of New South Wales. The station opened on 26 September 1856 and was an early terminus of the Main South line. Immediately north of Liverpool station, a former branch line crossed the Georges River and entered the Holsworthy military base. The pylons for the bridge over the river have been reused to provide a pedestrian walkway. In 1929, the line from Central was electrified. Lidcombe railway station is located on the Main Suburban line, serving the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western, T2 Inner West & Leppington, T3 Bankstown and T7 Olympic line services. History Lidcombe station opened on 1 November 1858 as Haslams Creek Station after local landowner, Samuel Haslam. When in 1867 land was set aside for a cemetery nearby, the residents renamed the locality Rookwood. The official name of the station was changed in 1878.
