Other names include red willow, silky cornel, kinnikinnick, and squawbush. Description ''Cornus amomum'' is a deciduous shrub growing to tall. The leaves are opposite, up to long and broad, oval with an acute apex. The flowers are produced in cymes. The fruit is a small blue drupe. ''Cornus amomum'' usually blooms between May and June, producing four-petalled showy yellowish white flowers. ''Cornus amomum'' leaves are rusty brown and pubescent, occurring opposite from one another and usually having between 4 and 5 veins per leaf side. ''Salix laevigata'', the red willow or polished willow, is a species of willow native to the southwestern United States and northern Baja California. Biology The red willow is a small tree up to in height. Like most other willows, it commonly grows along riverbanks and in other areas with high soil moisture. The bark is ridged and grayish, though it sometimes turns reddish with age. Its form is variable, but it will often grow from multiple winding trunks, some more or less straight up, and some growing out far away from the base, even horizontally, and laying along the creek bottom before growing upwards again. Twigs are reddish and flexible when young. Leaves are 3-4 inches long, lanceolate and shiny green on top, dull whitish green underneath. Red Willow County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 10,702. Its county seat is McCook. In the Nebraska license plate system, Red Willow County is represented by the prefix 48 (it had the forty-eighth-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). History Red Willow County was formed in 1873. It was named for the Red Willow Creek. The name is reported to be a mistranslation of the Dakota Indian name ''Chanshasha Wakpala,'' which literally means Red Dogwood Creek. Redwillow River
The Redwillow River is a tributary of the Wapiti River in northern Alberta and north-eastern British Columbia, Canada. It flows through the Pouce Coupe Prairie, in the south of Peace River Country. Course The Redwillow River forms in north-eastern British Columbia as an outflow of Stony Lake, in the Rocky Mountain Foothills, north of Yoho Mountain and south of Lone Mountain, at an elevation of . A campground is established on the shore of Stony lake immediately west of the river origin, and is accessible through local roads south of the Heritage Highway. It flows east between Lone Mountain and Squaw Mountain, where it receives the waters from Rat Lake and other mountainside creeks. South Redwillow River is a right tributary that also brings water from Quicksand Lake. After draining Little Prairie Lakes, it continues east and receives water from Thunder Creek and Hiding Creek.
