Red Smith (pitcher)
Charles Smith, nicknamed "Red", was an American Negro league pitcher in the 1910s. Smith made his Negro leagues debut in 1915 with the Philadelphia Giants. He went on to play for several teams through 1919, including the Lincoln Stars, Brooklyn Royal Giants, Bacharach Giants, and Lincoln Giants The Lincoln Giants were a Negro league baseball team based in New York City from 1911 through 1930. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk.
