Red Ryder (radio Series)
''Red Ryder'' was an American radio western series based on the popularity of the comic strip ''Red Ryder'' by Stephen Slesinger and Fred Harman. It debuted on February 3, 1942 on the NBC Blue NetworkCox, Jim (2008). ''This Day in Network Radio: A Daily Calendar of Births, Debuts, Cancellations and Other Events in Broadcasting History''. McFarland & Company, Inc. . and was broadcast three days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. After the sixth episode Langendorf Bread became its prime sponsor. The final episode was broadcast in 1951. History Since "Red Ryder" aimed a young audience the violence was toned down a bit. Unlike the comics Red was not active as a lawman, but mostly worked as a cowhand. Only when the stories asked for it did he get involved in acting like a (deputy) sheriff. The Mutual Broadcasting System (commonly referred to simply as Mutual; sometimes referred to as MBS, Mutual Radio or the Mutual Radio Network) was an American commercial radio network in operation from 1934 to 1999. Don Lee (broadcaster)
Donald Musgrave Lee (August 12, 1880 – August 30, 1934) was the exclusive west coast distributor of Cadillac automobiles in the early 20th century. Biography Lee was born in Lansing, Michigan. In 1919, he purchased the Earl Automobile Works of Hollywood, California. Harley Earl, the son of the company's owner, was kept on as manager. Renamed Don Lee Coach and Body Works, the company produced many custom designed Cadillacs for the rich and famous. Earl left the company to become the head of General Motors' styling department in 1927. Lee died in Los Angeles in 1934 of a sudden heart attack, leaving control of his auto and broadcasting empire to his son, Thomas S. "Tommy" Lee (1906–1950). Anne Whitfield (born August 27, 1938) is an American former actress on old-time radio, television, stage, and film. Her first name is sometimes seen spelled Ann. Early years Born in Oxford, Mississippi, Whitfield was the daughter of Richard N. Whitfield, Jr. and Frances Turner Whitfield. Her father was director of bands at the University of Mississippi, and her mother was a speech teacher. After moving to California, she attended Rosewood Avenue Public School. By the time she was 17, she was studying at the University of California, Los Angeles, scheduling her classes around her work on radio programs. Tommy Cook (actor)
Tommy Cook (born July 5, 1930) is an American producer, screenwriter and actor. He came up with the story for the 1977 American disaster-suspense film'' Rollercoaster'', starring George Segal. Cook also voiced Augie Anderson and Biff on Hanna-Barbera's animated series ''The Funky Phantom'' and ''Jabberjaw''. Film Cook played a villainous tribesboy opposite Johnny Weissmuller in '' Tarzan and the Leopard Woman'', a "nice native lad" in ''Jungle Girl'' (a serial), and Little Beaver in the serial version of ''Adventures of Red Ryder''. He would later help write and produce ''Rollercoaster'', as well as '' Players'', starring Ali MacGraw. Radio and television Cook started his career on radio.
