Red Poppies On Walls (film)
''Red Poppies on Walls'' ( sq, Lulekuqët mbi Mure) is a 1976 Albanian drama film directed by Dhimitër Anagnosti. The film is based on the auto-biographical book by Petraq Qafzezi. A restored version of the movie was published by the Albanian Central State Film Archive in December 2023, with the financial support of the "Season of Classic Films" program of the Association of European Cinematheques and the Europe Creative Desk – MEDIA program. The restoration was carried out in the studio Dabimus srl, which is part of the "Aldo Moro" University of Bari, Italy. Plot The film takes place in an orphanage in Tirana, Albania, in the beginning of World War II during occupation of the Italian fascists and tells the story of the harsh lives of the orphans living in total oppression and manipulation and uprising against the corrupt school system. Dhimitër Anagnosti
Dhimitër Anagnosti (born 23 January 1936) is an Albanian film director of the 20th century. He was a member of the Parliament of Albania in the 1990s and a Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. For his contribution in film, he received the People's Artist of Albania medal. In 2011, former president Bamir Topi accredited him the "Honor of the Nation" order, sq, Urdhri "Nderi i Kombit". Early life Anagnosti was born on January 23, 1936 in Vuno, a village in the Himara municipality, District of Vlorë Albania. After graduating the ''Ali Demi'' high school in Vlorë, he pursued his studies and graduated as a film director in Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography of Moscow. In 1961, along with Viktor Gjika, Anagnosti directed the film, ''Njeriu kurrë nuk vdes'' ( en, The Man Never Dies), using as a script a short story from American writer, Ernest Hemingway. Agim Qirjaqi (27 January 1950 – 28 March 2010) was an Albanian actor and television director. As an actor his filmography was extensive, while as a director his output was limited to some television work. He worked with a number of prominent Albanian directors, including Dhimitër Anagnosti and Gjergj Xhuvani. For his role in the film ''Lulekuqet mbi Mure'' he won the Best Actor prize in the Festival of Cinematography of Albania in 1977. The National Center of Cinematography ( sq, Qendra Kombëtare e Kinematografisë) is the largest film distributor and film production company in the cinema of Albania connected with over 700 films (feature films and documentaries) between 1947 and 2012. The studio has produced and distributed the vast majority of Albanian films. Especially important was its work in the 1970s and 1980s when the studio averaged 75–80 movies per year.
