List Of Power Stations In New Jersey
This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of New Jersey, sorted by type and name. In 2020, New Jersey had a total summer capacity of 17,424 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 61,106 GWh. The corresponding electrical energy generation mix was 47.8% natural gas, 45.8% nuclear, 2.5% solar, 1.7% coal, 1.2% biomass, 1% non-biogenic waste, and 0.1% hydroelectric & wind. New Jersey's renewable portfolio standard was updated in 2018 to require that 21% of electricity be from renewable sources by 2021, 35% by 2025, and 50% by 2030. In February 2023, Governor Phil Murphy set a goal of 100% clean electricity (including non-renewable zero-emissions sources) by 2035. About 75% of in-state renewable generation came from small- and large-scale solar photovoltaics (PV) that year. Small-scale solar, which includes customer-owned PV panels, delivered an additional net 2,693 GWh of energy to the state's electrical grid during 20 ...

Neptune Cable
The Neptune Cable is a 500kV and 660 MW high-voltage direct current submarine power cable between Sayreville, New Jersey and Levittown, New York on Long Island. It carries 22 percent of Long Island's electricity. It was developed by Anbaric Development Partners. The cable is managed by Fairfield, Connecticut-based PowerBridge, LLC. History The power plant was developed as part of a 2003 request for proposal from the Long Island Power Authority for new generating plants on Long Island that was a response to the Northeast blackout of 2003 and delays by Connecticut in activating the Cross Sound Cable, and due to continued high peak demand over multiple years. This solicitation also resulted in construction of the Caithness Long Island Energy Center; Bethpage Energy Center; and Pinelawn Power Plant in West Babylon, New York. The cable was constructed following the Long Island Power Authority's determination that importing electricity would make more sense economically tha ...

Electric Power Transmission
Electric power transmission is the bulk movement of electrical energy from a generating site, such as a power plant, to an electrical substation. The interconnected lines that facilitate this movement form a ''transmission network''. This is distinct from the local wiring between high-voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to as electric power distribution. The combined transmission and distribution network is part of electricity delivery, known as the electrical grid. Efficient long-distance transmission of electric power requires high voltages. This reduces the losses produced by strong currents. Transmission lines use either alternating current (HVAC) or direct current (HVDC). The voltage level is changed with transformers. The voltage is stepped up for transmission, then reduced for local distribution. A wide area synchronous grid, known as an "interconnection" in North America, directly connects generators delivering AC power with the same rela ...

Eastern Interconnection
The Eastern Interconnection is one of the two major alternating-current (AC) electrical grids in the North American power transmission grid. The other major interconnection is the Western Interconnection. The three minor interconnections are the Quebec, Alaska, and Texas interconnections. All of the electric utilities in the Eastern Interconnection are electrically tied together during normal system conditions and operate at a synchronized frequency at an average of 60 Hz. The Eastern Interconnection reaches from Central Canada eastward to the Atlantic coast (excluding Quebec), south to Florida, and back to the western Great Plains (excluding most of Texas). Interconnections can be tied to each other via high-voltage direct current power transmission lines (DC ties), or with variable-frequency transformers (VFTs), which permit a controlled flow of energy while also functionally isolating the independent AC frequencies of each side. The Eastern Interconnection is tied ...
