Red Line (Tel Aviv Light Rail)
The Red Line will be the first section of a light rail system in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, known as the Tel Aviv Light Rail. The line will run from Bat Yam in the south to Petah Tikva in the northeast with a significant portion of it underground. The total cost of the red line is estimated at NIS 11 billion or, approximately US$3 billion. Construction began in 2011 and is expected to be completed in February 2023, after numerous delays. Route The Red Line will have a total of 34 stations. It will start at Petah Tikva's Central Bus Station, east of Tel Aviv and follow Jabotinsky Road (Route 481) westwards at street level. At the point where Jabotinsky Road and Highway 4 intersect the line drops into a tunnel for and emerges to street level again just before Jaffa, where it turns southwards towards Bat Yam. The Tel Aviv Savidor Central railway station ( he, תֵּל אָבִיב סָבִידוֹר מֶרְכָּז, ''Tel Aviv Savidor Merkaz'', ar, تل أبيب مركز سافيدور) is a major railway station on the Ayalon Railway in central Tel Aviv, Israel, serving most lines of Israel Railways. It is located in the median of the Ayalon Highway at the Arlozorov interchange, with bridges over the highway linking passengers to a large Tel Aviv bus terminal to the west and the Ramat Gan Diamond Exchange District to the east. In 2019, over 13 million passengers used the station, making it the second-busiest in the country after HaShalom station one stop to the south. Tunnel Boring Machine
A tunnel boring machine (TBM), also known as a "mole", is a machine used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and rock strata. They may also be used for microtunneling. They can be designed to bore through hard rock, wet or dry soil, or sand. Tunnel diameters can range from (micro-TBMs) to to date. Tunnels of less than a metre or so in diameter are typically done using trenchless construction methods or horizontal directional drilling rather than TBMs. TBMs can be designed to excavate non-circular tunnels, including u-shaped, horseshoe, square or rectangular tunnels. Tunnel boring machines are used as an alternative to drilling and blasting (D&B) methods in rock and conventional "hand mining" in soil.
