Red Headed Stranger is a song written by Edith Lindeman and Carl Stutz, published in 1953. Originally written for Perry Como, the song was not recorded by him due to publishing issues. In 1954, Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith released a version of the song on MGM Records that received good radio play. Country singer-songwriter Willie Nelson performed the song at the time of its original release for children at bedtime on his show, '' The Western Express''. In 1974, inspired by his then-wife Connie Koepke, he wrote the concept album ''Red Headed Stranger'' based on the song. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. Arthur Smith (April 1, 1921 – April 3, 2014) was an American musician, songwriter, and producer of records, as well as a radio and TV host. Smith produced radio and TV shows; ''The Arthur Smith Show'' was the first nationally syndicated country music show on television. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, Smith developed and ran the first commercial recording studio in the Southeast. ''The Red Headed Stranger'' is an interpretation by Carla Bozulich of Willie Nelson's 1975 multi-platinum album ''Red Headed Stranger'', released digitally and on CD by DiCristina Stair Builders in 2003. The Maddox Brothers and Rose were an American country music group active from the 1930s to 1950s, consisting of four brothers, Fred, Cal, Cliff, and Don Maddox, along with their sister Rose; Cliff died in 1949 and was replaced by brother Henry. Orin Glenn Troutman (October 24, 1934 – March 18, 2022), known professionally as Glen Glenn, was an American rockabilly singer, whose career began in the early 1950s and continued for several decades.
