Red FM (Ireland)
Cork's RedFM is an Irish radio station which broadcasts to Cork and the surrounding area, and is aimed at a youth audience. The station commenced broadcasting on 16 January 2002" and was awarded Ireland's first youth radio licence. Its target market is the 15-35 age group in Cork city and county. History Some of RedFM's key personnel had previously worked with "Longwave, Atlantic 252" which ceased broadcasting on Thursday 20 December 2001. RedFM's first Chief Executive, Cork native Henry Condon and former presenter Charlie Wolf, a Boston native, were both well known voices on Atlantic 252. Adrian Bodenham was Red FM's Production Director at launch, and moved to Ireland to join the team from the UK's Virgin Radio. The station has picked up 13 PPI Radio Awards since first broadcasting, including winning the "Best Breakfast Show" award two years in a row, in 2008 and 2009. County Cork ( ga, Contae Chorcaí) is the largest and the southernmost county of Ireland, named after the city of Cork, the state's second-largest city. Atlantic 252
Atlantic 252 was an Irish longwave radio station broadcasting across Ireland and Great Britain on 252 kHz (1190 metres) from its 1988 purpose-built transmission site at Clarkstown radio transmitter, County Meath, which provided service to Atlantic 252 from 1989 until 2002. The station's studios were located 12 km (7 mi) away in Mornington House, Summerhill Road, Trim, County Meath. Atlantic 252 also had sales offices and studios at 74, Newman Street in London. After its closure, the station's former frequency and transmitter were used for the failed TEAMtalk 252 project which lasted for just a few months in 2002. From 2004, the frequency was used by RTÉ to provide a version of RTÉ Radio 1 to the expatriate community in Britain from the Clarkstown radio transmitter. Thomas Crosbie Holdings
Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) was a family-owned media and publishing group based in Cork, Ireland. Its largest publication was once the ''Irish Examiner'', the third largest daily broadsheet newspaper in the Republic of Ireland. History and receivership In July 2012, it was reported by RTÉ that Thomas Crosbie Holdings were considering a "debt restructuring". On 20 January 2013, it was reported that TCH "is edging closer to making a tough decision on its financial restructuring". TCH employed 800 people at one stage, this dropped to 640. In a 2013 court case the company said "everyone in the organisation, was highly attuned to the fact it was a difficult business". On 6 March 2013, TCH went into receivership. Landmark Media Investments was a media holding company owned by Tom Crosbie and his father Ted Crosbie with Irish newspaper, radio and digital investments. Their ownership was via Rinvery Ltd. Landmark Media Investments was established in February 2013 and acquired several assets of Thomas Crosbie Holdings in March 2013. Landmark Media Investments sold all their media interests to ''The Irish Times'' in July 2018. Employee numbers and job cuts Landmark Media Investments employed 554 as at March 2013. Employee numbers were reduced to around 500 as at April 2014. The number of staff employed subsequently fell to around 420. Staff levels were 414 as at 31 December 2017. Charlie Wolf
Stephen Linsky (born 12 April 1959) better known as Charlie Wolf, is a British-based American radio talk show host, disc jockey and political commentator, and formerly the Communications Director of Republicans Abroad UK. Wolf previously presented a late-night phone-in show he hosted on the radio station Talksport. Broadcasting career Wolf moved to the UK in 1984 to DJ for the pirate radio station Laser 558. Laser 558 was broadcasting from MV Communicator, based in international waters. In 1989, he became one of the launch presenters at Atlantic 252 and was soon presenting the breakfast show, doing so until around 1993. He also presented the network evening show on the three GWR FM stations in the west of England.
