Reasonable Doubt (1936 Film)
''Reasonable Doubt'' is a 1936 British comedy film directed by George King starring John Stuart and Nancy Burne. It was produced by the Hungarian Gabriel Pascal. The story follows a lawyer (Stuart) whose love for a young girl (Burne) causes him to defend the man he thinks to be her lover. During the trial the lawyer finds out that the man is his own son. George King (film Director)
George King (1899 – 26 June 1966) was an English actors' agent, film director, producer and screenplay writer. He is associated with the production of quota quickies. He helmed several of Tod Slaughter's melodramas, including 1936's '' The Demon Barber of Fleet Street''. Career King entered into the film industry after completion of medical studies. His first film ''Too Many Crooks'' featured a young stage actor named Laurence Olivier, also making his film debut. Once launched from routine thrillers, King made the usual array of lightweight comedies, romances and thrillers. With the outbreak of war, King directed some distinctly up-market war movies, most successful of which was ''Candlelight in Algeria'', a vehicle for James Mason. He was also successful with 1947's ''The Shop at Sly Corner'', which introduced Diana Dors, featuring a charismatic performance by Oscar Homolka and a notable performance by Kenneth Griffith. Cecil Humphreys (1883–1947) was a British film and theatre actor who played in 46 films between 1916 and 1948, mostly in supporting roles as doctors, aristocrats, and generals. Fred Duprez (September 6, 1884 – October 27, 1938) was an American actor, comedian and singer who performed in vaudeville, phonograph record and film. He made phonograph recordings in the US and the UK in the 1900s, 1910s, and 1920s. Most of the films he appeared in were British. He was also a writer, and wrote the popular stage farce '' My Wife's Family'', filmed three times in Britain, firstly in 1931; once in Sweden in 1932; and once in Finland, in 1933. Fred Duprez was born in Detroit, Michigan. He died from a heart attack on board a ship en route to England. He was the father of the actress, June Duprez.
