Raíces is a Mexican village on the slopes of the volcano Nevado de Toluca in the Municipio of Zinacantepec, Estado de México at the altitude of 3,531 metres (11,584 ft). The population of the village is around 500 people. Nevado De Toluca
Nevado de Toluca () is a stratovolcano in central Mexico, located about west of Mexico City near the city of Toluca. It is the fourth highest of Mexico's peaks, after Pico de Orizaba, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The volcano and the area around it is now a national park. Etymology It is often called by the Nahuatl name Xinantecatl which is usually translated as The Naked Lord, ''Señor Desnudo'' in Spanish, although other etymologies have been suggested such as "Lord of the Corn Stalks" (Chinantecatl), Tzinacantepetl (Mountain of the Bats), or Tzinacantecatl (person from Zinacantepec). Further evidence regarding the etymologies of this mountain has surfaced after many archeology discoveries in and around the area. Zinacantepec
Zinacantepec is a municipality located just west of the city of Toluca in Mexico State, Mexico. The municipal seat is the town of San Miguel Zinacantepec. Zinacantepec is Nahuatl for "bat mountain" and its Aztec glyph is a bat on a mountain. It is named after a small mountain which contained two caves which used to be filled with thousands of bats. In the 18th century, the residents of this mountain moved to settle alongside the Franciscan monastery established here in the 16th century. This monastery is the best preserved of a network of missionaries established in the Toluca Valley in the mid 16th century. Today, the complex functions as the parish church, with the cloister dedicated as the colonial era museum of the state of Mexico.
